Quit fooling yourselves. They were no different back then than they are today. Ty Cobb? A psychopath. Babe Ruth? A drunkard. I could go on and on, but what's the point? I love the game, always have. Worthy heroes? I think not. Took my 6 or so son to a Padres game, he so badly wanted Johnny Bench's autograph. We got there early and we went to the Red's dugout. Most of the players were super nice, but when we told them why we were there we were told not to waste our time J.B. never gives autographs. The kid persisted, but when Bench showed up he ignored us. We went over to the Padres side and got some rooky's autograph. Turns out it was Ozzie Smith. So. Ya just never know, do ya? I wonder if he went off to St. Louis and became self righteous prick?

Spirit they had some characters back then. Talking about autograph. I took Brody to a Harrisburg Senators game when Harper was in minors. All the kids waited for him. One of the players came out n say. Harper isn't playing today n he's not signing any autographs. I read where yogi Berra was a real jerk also. Many like Pete Rose I didn't. You have everywhere in life. You know the old say. If you could buy some for what they're really worth then sell then for what they think they're worth. You'd be very wealthy. đź‘Ťđź‘Ť Good to see you back . People been asking about you

My Cousin Mike (from AR) and his family were in town in the early 70s and he and I went to a Brewers/Yankees Doubleheader at MKE County Stadium. He was a huge Bobby Murcer fan and was hoping to get the Centerfielder’s autograph after the game. We waited outside the Yankees team bus and after a few players boarded the bus, Mike got on behind them and tried to find him. He did get a few signatures (Roy White, Fred Stanley and Graig Nettles) but Murcer was not on the bus. As we were leaving, I spotted Thurman Munson getting in a cab about 50yds away so we ran over to him. He ignored us as I tried to reach my program through the back window (along with my pen). He rolled up the window as the cab pulled away, my pen was lodged in the window of the cab. Apparently he was too good to sign, as well as ride on the team bus. We never did get Murcer’s autograph.

OJ do you ever wonder if their own insecurity made then so arrogant 🤔. The way my old man was really made me dislike rude arrogant bragarts. Always think they know more n are better at everything than others. Must be a pain in the neck carrying that big head around. Oh well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I never want to know it all. Then I'd have nothing new to learn. Life would get very boring IMO. 👍

Good point Grizz! Some live for the attention, whereas some avoid it like the plague. I don’t think I could have functioned under the microscope as many have.
The whole autograph dynamic has changed since there are guys who pay kids to get the autograph so the guy can sell it at their collectibles store. It is messed up.

I never cared to be the center of attention. Back to the wall n watch worked for me brother. Did you see where the guy that had Judge's 62 ball got 1.5mil was offered 3mil private sale then got scared of that n went to auction. Judge said he couldn't afford it. He just inked a 30+mil yr contract. Yankees are crazy. He won't play 9 more yrs. His 62 Homer's got them nowhere. Gave me flashback of being 3/0 then lost 4 straight at home. Now they're getting more older guys. Hasn't worked well for then last few yrs. You'd think they'd learn. 🤔

My step son was working a charitable golf tournament on Kiawah Island. Went up to get Dan Marino's autograph. Handed him the brochure and marker. Dan signed it with the cap still on and handed it back with a look like "you should have taken the cap off. Never got that autograph. "Needles to say he's not that much of a Dolphin fan as he use to be.

Love the Yankees
But they put themselves back in the hole again
Hell love Judge
But paid way to much
Just so we can watch the lose again

I agree there. They talk about 62 hr. Look how many strikeouts he had. I read n article about the special balls they started use. MLB came up with some kind crap about why the type ball wasn't being used by everyone. First yr he hasn't been hurt at least once. I watched how nasty he started getting with the umps. The all American boy knows how to cuss. Other players would have been tossed. Time will tell. Baseball wanted a new hero. They let Matt Carpenter go. His average was better than Judge. Ea team needs that one player. He better remember Yankee fans aren't very forgiving 🤣
