I suppose that if you truly admire and relate to anything Winston Churchill was about, you probably shouldn't be very happy that your ancestors immigrated to this fair land after all. He may be "a hero" in some folks' eyes, but he absolutely h**ed Gandhi, wanted him dead, as a matter of fact, which puts him squarely in my list of "not-to-be-admired historical figures".
These days the "conservative wing of the country" has embraced everything from c*****e-c****e deniers, immigration (aren't you glad they didn't deny all your Irish, Scottish, German, Italian, what-have-you relatives, entry into the USA ?..... unless you are Native American.... YOU ARE THE PRODUCT OF IMMIGRANTS !!), electric vehicles, sanity when it comes to gun-acquisition/availability, "socialistic" perks .... like making sure kids and old folks get fed and clothed and sheltered, and so many other aspects of governance that are so very logical to a progressive society.
And is that not the goal of this nation ? Progress ?
Most certainly it is. Why would you wish to stagnate by "conserving" ways that do not benefit the progress ?
Bigotry and outward disdain for those who don't embrace "the values" you hold precious, is simply the definition of "foolish behavior", if you wish for progress of any kind.....of the nation, your friends and family, even your own peace of mind.
The "folks on the Right" (read...'conservative", Republican, Trump followers....& many, many of the "regular posters" on this very forum) espouses the belief that if the military "is strong", the price of oil is tolerable, and THEY don't have to listen to, or help alleviate, other people's shortfalls, then the country will be just fine.
I tend to disagree with that "conservative point of view".

If we were to spend even 10% of the $$$ Congress just allotted for the military in the Bill to "keep the government solvent"..... every school would be funded, every child would be cared for, and there would be no discussion over whether Social Security will survive.
If all this makes me "a libtard" in your eyes, so be it....I shall wear the designation with P***E.
For you see, I embrace the Native American thought pattern of "think forward 7 generations from now, and act IN THEIR INTEREST... NOT YOUR OWN PRESENT CONDITION.

I find great humor in the quip I have heard from several sources....."V****g is quite similar to putting a car in gear....."D" is to put forward motion (progress)...."R" is for reverse (as in go back to when only white males ran and decided everything and everyone else is merely their servants and should be grateful for any existence at all..... y'all talk that over with your wives and daughters, okay ?..... hehehe)

Got to meet Bradley in 1979 while working in Port Newark when he was NJ's newly elected Senator.
Being an impressionable "youth" & a sports fan - yeah, that's where my politics started & the "D's" got my v**e.

How times have changed.
Almost 50 years later & a lifetime of experiences has changed my mindset and affiliations.

These quotes have been attributed to Winston Churchill (& others) - they ring true in my case.
How about you?

PS - putting this in the Attic because politics just might be a bit d******e...

The fact that our ancestors came here through Ellis Island, and didn't sneak through a tunnel, across a river, or over a fence, means nothing to you, correct?
As far as political parties go,I believe Charles Barkley says it well.

Bill Clinton closed something like 129 military bases.
Where's the money? The things you forecast didn't happen.

No Jar, I'm referring to the undocumented crowds of central, and south americans , and whoever else is mixed in with them , including F******l smugglers, released criminals and cartel members. They're overloading our systems, and raising the crime rates wherever they settle in large numbers. You can't openly welcome millions of people, who you don't know anything about. It's also extremely unfair to all the people who followed the rules and met all the requirements, even if it took them several years to be allowed in.
