What does "Heres to mud in your eye", mean when you offer someone cheers?

I used to hear it used a lot more often back in the day, but not so much anymore. I never knew what it meant. Does anyone? Don't cheat by asking the internet. The internet thinks it is so smart, but they are just a bunch of liars.

I think it involves the burn of the liquor is as bad ad the pain of something in the eye. MHO

I have no idea where the saying came from, but to me it’s hilarious. I always thought it sounded Three Stooges-ish. My 34 year old son still cracks up every time he sees this old shot glass from my mom and dad’s house.

I think it has to do with Jesus healing a blind man by spreading mud on his eyes in the bible

Three sheets to the wind is a condition derived from sailing. Sails were often called sheets in the sailing world. Even now, the lines that pull in the sails are called sheets. Three sheets generally means fly all the sails, the weather be damned. In other word, out of control.
