Kudos and good morning to my walking encyclopedias of fishing.
In the past I have seen people use WD-40 before rinsing off their fishing gear to attack or loosen any salt or sand and suggest that it is good for the line even to go as far saying good attractant for fish. Sounds fishy to me has anyone used or tried on their equipment.

And pondering using 30 lb floral carbon for mainline some say the diameter is too large will coil off spinning reel and some say it's a softer material and breaks easier I say I take it to the experts who may have knowledge of this. As always I appreciate your knowledge and any feedback you may have. thank you

Fancy I don't know about wd- 40 working on sand n salt. It was made to displace water. I use line lube. As for 30lb floro line in a spinning reel unless it a bigger reel I wouldn't use it. Use 30 lb braid with a floro leader. Good floro is tough line. Many of us use braid n floro together. I just use water to wash reels. Then spray line lube on. Some use wd-40 for lube n attractant. Many options n opinions. Try some see what works best for you. Good luck 👍🎣

Thank you grizzly 17 and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. I wondered about the WD-40 being penetrating fluid I didn't know if it would get into the real and mess up whatever grease or lubrication is in there.
The fluorocarbon I'm just thinking invisible line for presentation and not being seen by fish.
Thanks for your feedback it helped.

I agree use 30 braid and fluorocarbon leader depending on water clarity I have used as little as 6' and as much as 20'. I to usually just rinse my reels in fresh water once in a while I'll rinse them with salt-away. I like to fill a bucket with fresh water and slosh the reel completely submerged then rinse off. I was told if you just spray the reel you can drive the salt into the spool and reel. as for wd40. I will spray it on bolts and metal and at times even a lure that has a tarnish to clean it up and while I know many use it as an attractant for fish and some swear by it, I buy regular scents that are specifically made for that purpose

Spraying anything oily onto your reels is going to attract dirt and cause it to stick and build up more readily. I suggest taking your reels apart and clean them with soap and water thoroughly. Then drying them with a towel and lubricating them to manufacture specs. They should fish and cast like new after doing this. If you don’t feel comfortable attempting the task yourself then I suggest taking them to a reel shop to have them properly cleaned. Just my two cents

If line is curly you can remove spool and soak in pretty warm tap water. Google the topic for more info. I have put rod and reels in shower to rinse them after salt water fishing. I have used wd-40 injected into smelt for sturgeon for sure. Some spray it on other lures. Some scrub everything with lemon scented dishwashing soap and swear by it as part of their regiment.

As I understand it, WD-40 used to be made with fish oil, which is why many used it as attractant. Now it is petroleum, I believe, so I would not use on lures or bait.

I use Super Braid for main line and as I have said on here before, there is a better product for Salt. Also, was told once that WD-40 should not be used on Roller guide bearings!

SALT-X. iT NEUTRALIZES THE SALT AND IT IS NOT A SOLVENT SO WON'T DISSOLVE THE LUBRICANT IN YOUR REELS. Sorry for all caps ADMIN, was watching keys as I hunt n peck type. I am sure most of you have seen those bottles like gas additives where there is a little separate globe on top of the big bottle that when you squeeze the main bottle, the little container will fill up and you add to your gas tank, well SALT-X it can come this way and you add to a pint or so of water. I just take a spray bottle with me when I don't have access with fresh water and spray my tackle with it. Works really good.

It shouldn't get in the reel but I wouldn't spray it up under the spool. Wd40 will work on grease. When I worked for highway dept. we sprayed it on clothes to remove blacktop stains before they set up. Merry Christmas n Happy New Year to you n yours also Fancy👍😊
