I like to fish at a harbor on Lake Michigan. I know there are carp there cause they sometimes jump out of the water. I have had no luck catching them but the person next to me literally caught like 8 the last time I went. How can a target these carp with rigs or bait?

Chum with corn to bring them in. I like using frosted mini wheats. Put s little water on one, mush it into a ball, stick it on a hook and throw it out there. Works like a charm for me! Good luck

Out here I've used hotdog slices to pretty good success or float some bread on a cheese hook behind a half filled clear bubble

corn works, i prefer bread - literally just ripped up 1/2" chunks float it right on top, throw out a bunch to start a feeding frenzy and eventually they will take the wrong one. they like garlic bread, anything that stinks really. someone here mentioned once throwing in some chips as a way to get the scent in the water, probably not a bad idea either.

Sounds like you need to ask, or spy on, the person who was next to you.

I spyed and they were using beard I think of I remember correctly. They had all new equipment and it seemed as though they were very wealthy. They felt bad they were taking all the fish that they gave me a free lure lol.

In my long ago youth, we pooled our penny stashes and bought the cheapest brand of pop-open biscuit dough. Trebles with the spring..no weight, the doughball is plenty. We actually "chummed" with cotton cake (cattle feed supplement made of crushed and compacted cotton seed) scattered on the extremely slow-moving Cottonwood and Neosho rivers in eastern Kansas. Cast a bit upstream and wait. Caught lots of 8-10lb....Mom wouldn't cook 'em. "You want to eat them, young man ? You clean them and convince your Father to let you use some charcoal". Funny... same conversation when I came home with a 3' gar tied to the banana seat of my bike.....Mom's,..huh..?
To this day I remember the fight of those fish. My friends tell me they fly fish for big carp in farm ponds with 10wt 's now. Not sure what patterns.
So...was the lure they gave you a good one ?....they coulda shared their bread.....hmmm...
