I rebuilt my old Southbend reel. Here’s the before, during and after pictures. It works great and I’ve caught a few fish with it since the rebuild. Is anyone else rebuilding old reels or working on their boat or tackle during the winter like I am? Let’s see some pictures and hear about your projects!

Nice job!Looks great! I love the old reels! I have my eyes out for a 60s Johnson under trigger reel. My friend had one when I was 14. Always wanted one.
My project
Making a she shed back into a he shed. I added on and Almost done.

Nice work TB. I'm curious, did you sandblast the old finish off or sand it down? It looks much smoother than the original surface. I haven't quite given up the ghost yet, but will be doing my annual maintenance and lubrication in a few more weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Actually I stripped the paint with a chemical. Used Rustoleum spray paint in a Hunter Green. Came out beautiful.

Wow!!! That turned out great. I like it.
FYI: add some line to that reel. Fill it to the rim and you will get optimal performance.

Very good rebuild TB. I just alway remove and replace. I’ve tried rebuilds but found I don’t have any patience 😎👍

T B .... Looks terrific, I'm curious, repaint is outstanding. Did ya ( gently ) sand or media blast surfaces to prepare them ? At my old workplace, I had access to glass bead surface prep apparatus, and it was the best . Beads strike surface, make a small dent and fragment, leaving nooks and crannies to trap and hold paint. Amazing process, works like a charm.
I used to restore spinning reels too, but found that following retirement, I don't have as much time
to spare as before, other hobbies and pursuits got out of hand. Go figure. Now I only grab original unrestored examples and leave the others alone. Kinda like some guys who collect that way in my car club.
Anyhow, Well Done Bro....
