Considering a Move?

Whether you are considering a move to Texas as a permeant residence or just as a winter visitor, you are certainly welcome. Below is a listing of the folks who have already moved, the data is from 2019, but I doubt there has been much change since then.

#1 California 62, 7 67
#2 Florida 25,188
#3 Louisiana 26,469
#4 Illinois 22, 552
#5 Oklahoma 21,401
#6 New York 20,909
#7 Colorado 18,768
#8 Virginia 18,741
#9 N, Carolin 15,803
#10 Arizona 15,284

I must admit there are some extenuating factors in these numbers, they do not reflect the number of folks who have moved to one of these top ten states from Texas. This data was compiled by Stacker from the information provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Please be assured if you just want to run a test and you are now living in the frozen north, if you would try a winter in far south Texas, you will not only be surprised at the weather but that most of your neighbors will be from wherever you escaped!

When I lived in the Rio Grande Valley, if we did not go back to North Texas for Christmas, I would have to mow my lawn. Yes, there were cold fronts, and about every decade a little snow, but even when a cold front blew through, it was over in two or three days, so you could go back to fishing, playing golf, or wh**ever your fancies led you.

If you have a trailer, there are parks galore and in many of these parks, you can go out and pick a fresh ruby-red grapefruit, or orange off a tree. Many of these parks were created in citrus orchards, so there is a double reward.

What about fishing? Well, there is the Gulf of Mexico and all the amenities you can name on South Padre Island. Also, Falcon Lake is about an hour west of the more heavily populated Valley. Mexico is just across the river, but I would caution all to stay away until that country can get control of drug gangs. You might be captured and held for ransom. Just Sayin…RJS

Some fish and game violations are felonies in Texas. Lone Star Law is very scary.

Yes, I suppose so, if you choose to skate near the edge of hunting and fishing laws. What I do is read carefully the laws pertaining to the game of fish I am seeking, and then remain well inside the boundaries.

I have heard of h****rs from Louisana coming over to hunt during white-wing dove season. K*****g twice their limit, they tried to hide the excess in empty beer cans. It didn't work and they were faced with big fines. If you plan to or feel it necessary to try and skate by the laws, Good luck, in any case.

If you know and respect the laws on hunting and fishing, you will have not grief on either in Texas. Just Sayin...RJS

sadly Texas may regret being so welcoming when the values that made Texas great change into the values that made people leave where they were from

Yes, you are right! That and the socialist teaching of professors in colleges and universities. Too bad we don't still have a law about swearing allegiance to the United States Constitution like in the 50's. Just Sayin...RJS

I feel that you are correct, but there's not law to keep others from coming to Texas, and never has been. Just Sayin...RJS
