I decided (against better judgement) to partake in the Black Friday foolishness as my local Farm and Fleet store was having a nice sale on a pair of boots I was interested in. The doors opened at 6:00, so I stood in line and was in by 6:01 and walked straight to the boots. They of course did not have my size on display so I asked a young girl to see if they had them in stock? She used her little iPad thing to check their stock and sure enough, they had 2 pair in the back room. She headed for the back and was stopped by a woman with an attitude and tons of questions. I waited for about 15 minutes and saw the girl again and asked if she found them? Well, she forgot all about me and offered to find someone from the Shoe Dept… I bit my tongue and said that would be very nice. About a minute later a lady with a grimace on her face (the I hate my f…ing job look) showed up and I started all over with her. She said that everything was out and she was off for 2 days. She looked exhausted and I told her the first girl showed me that 2 pair were in stock. Rather than argue, she held her tongue this time and offered to go look. I thanked her and off she stomped. She came back with a smile on her face and said she found them. I didn’t expect her reaction and thanked her for her great service and to have a pleasant day.
I then went on with my day and came back to read a post about thanking someone and how it might make someone’s day…to feel appreciated. This was a perfect example.
We don’t always realize that everyone has issues to some degree and a little kindness, or even a smile can really change another’s attitude.
Have a great day all and thanks!
I went to a big box store the day before Thanksgiving as I had three tv's conk out in a week for some reason. I live rurally so it was an hour drive into the city and I got there about 20 minutes after they opened. It was a mad house, everybody seemed to be in a high strung rushing mode and I was ready to be annoyed at every single element of mankind. I got into the store, got two tv's in about 10 minutes and was out the door in 15. While at my truck some guy driving by stopped and helped me load the tv. It made me question my own ill humor and I had to offer a little apology to God for my mindset. Sometimes I get up in the morning and put on my sh*t colored glasses and wonder why everything looks like sh*t. I try to work on that. Spiritual progress rather than perfection. All y'all have a great day too.

You are braver than I. I early shopped on Tuesday as around here they were having Black Friday Week sales. Got Hutch and my nephew Pajama comfy pants 100% cotton, none of this Chinese polyester stuff $11.99 each. Looked for myself, only polyester, looked for jeans , none fit right. I somehow missed the "shopping" gene at birth.

How could you and I be so lucky, Kandy? I hate to shop. Most of my stuff comes from Marion or online.
I got yours Kandy, I love to shop. Black Friday leaves me pretty cold though. Nothin they have that I want that badly, even if they're giving it away. St. Croix rods and Shimano reels I might (might) show up. OK probably. I went once. I told Kathe, never again. People going nuts hurting each other over 16MB flash drives. No thank you.

You did good John, just maybe the lady with the grimace face needed a word of appreciation. No telling what time her day started nor the night before ended. Your patience and kindness paid off.

Good to hear from you! Hutch loves to shop. When we go together I always lose him. Wanders off looking at everything. Don't mind until it;s time to leave and I can't find him and he leaves his cellphone in the car, lol!!

Sounds Ike ne and my wife Ksndy. I shop, I'm on a mission to get what I need and get out. She has to look at everything and store it away in her head even if she knows we would never buy it. She calls it her female hunter gatherer gene
Hey you all, not to change th subject, but yeah to change the subject - I've got twin teen granddaughters I'm looking to buy Christmas gifts for. Looking for advice/suggestions. These "twins" are nothing at all alike. Look nothing alike. Hadley is tall and wispy with long hair. Lorelei is sorta normal height for her age. They'll be 13 this January. L's, that's how I think of her cause she hates her name and wants to be called Oliver, is my fishin buddy, and she may be a lesbian or or one those guys in a girl's body. I don't know, I don't understand any of that. All I know is I love he no matter and that's all she needs to know right now. Tall and wispy is very girly, no interest in fishing, she is grampa's girl . Totally different kid. Which is as it should be. She wants a bicycle. I'd like to get her one. What kind? Help!
When I was her age I wanted a Schwinn 3speed. Red. Skinny tires. I wasn't a girl. And please don't anyone the old "she'll like it no matter what you pick out". 40 years from now probably. I want her to like it for Christmas, and look back fondly. Know what I mean? I remember the year I wanted cowboy boots and my grandpa kept telling me he was getting me a doll. So when I opened my present at his house that morning, right under the lid was was a Raggedy Andy my grandma had made me by hand. Of course under the doll was pair of boots. Don't know whatever happened to those boots, but that doll is a cherished gift from my past. Still got it.

Hey Spirit,
Check out Trek Bikes. Built in WI, and there are a nice selection of styles available.

Most of the kids that I've dealt with have been interested on mountain bikes lately. One of the better ones is Trek, but they're not bashful about their pricing

Most of the kids around here ride Mountain Bikes with the fat wheels and big treads so they can go on trails through the woods. Or now they're all riding electric skateboards with stand up handlebar or electric bikes. Good luck.
A smile and a thank you will cost you nothing and just may be the thing that makes someone else day
