How many of you guys have tried any of these unusual lures? Personally I never have but I’ve seen a video of a guy catching pike after pike on a duckling lure? This article is a decent read on the subject.

I’ve never tried those, but my brother ( rest his crazy soul) caught a couple of bass on a lure that looked like a Budweiser can with hooks and a diving lip on it . It was a lot smaller than a beer can , but it caught fish. Bass will eat anything they think will fit in their mouths....

I have a buddy that uses live mice for bait, they use some type of harness then toss them out and let em swim.

Cats,
Back in the late 70's early 80's me and a buddy ordered some of the harnesses, I think from Herter's catalog? and tossed live white mice onto milfoil beds on Guntersville... This was around the time when "rat" fishing was becoming popular down here... It was crazy how the bass would come up through the grass to get the mice...I haven't thought about that summer in years, and would have no idea where or if you could get the harnesses from now, but they were made of rubber bands and held about a 5/0 hook on the mouses' back... We went to K-Mart and bought the mice and made the mistake of telling the girl in the pet department why we were buying 20 at a time, you talking about some dirty looks, and a definite "chill" when we would come in....

Just to go further with my white mice story. After stealing daughters mice.I went to Kent Ohio were I fished in park, guy walks past and says my bait bucket was moving. I act if I'm hard of hearing ( a good move) he picks up bucket and says no water??? He gives me a 10 minute lecture about animal cruelty. I just smile and wave I just caught 4 pike in an hour and a half before he got there!!

When I was first learning to fish artificial, I had a lure called ‘eelit’ (spelling?). Eel lit. It was jointed and was brownish orange with black. Always caught LM. Also a ‘crazy crawler’ lure resembles a mouse with material covered body and rawhide tail. LM will take ducklings, red-wing black bird hatchlings, which nest in cattails, snakes, and who knows what else. Legitimate? I’d say yes!!

I've used the duckling and mouse lures for snakehead, although, as mentioned by others, they're primarily for pike type fish. Snakies do hit the mouse lure but difficult to get a hookset for some reason. Never gotten hit on the duckling.

I think you could add a chipmunk to those unusual lures. A few years back, I caught a 2 pound bass with a weird shaped belly, took it home to clean it, and found this chipmunk that he had swallowed headfirst. I guess you just have to keep an open mind when you tie some thing on your line.

That is one unlucky chipmunk.
