What an awesome beautiful fall day up in the mountains on a Lake James North Carolina * My buddy Rick and I went all over that lake dragging live bait trying to find fish that were up and feeding... finally found a point with some activity * The smallmouth were finicky, usually nothing can resist hitting these 4” shiners... got some decent 3-4 lb smallmouth... but the fish of the day was this monster Perch that hit that bait and pull down that rod 1/2 way in the lake... PS sorry no PIXS of the 3 or 4 “whiskered” smallmouth Bass...
Nice fish and great pictures.

Nice pictures, nice fish, nice rig, and a nice day with your buddy, how can you beat that? Thanks for sharing, duck.
Nice perch. They are still my favorite freshwater fish on the platter. I am simple minded. I see walleye as just big perch with poor coloring. That statement should get sparks flying.
Gutsy comment on Walleye... I like it!
What a great day. Those are some nice fish. Nice to get out this time of year and enjoy a good day on the water with a friend.
Great pix!! I'm learning more and more about fishing. That Perch you caught, were you casting and reeling in to catch that, or what was the method? I don't mean to seem thick here but again I really want to learn techniques and the how to. Been fishing my whole life from West Point Lake in Alabama/Georgia to the coasts and lakes of the Carolinas.

We were fishing in 30-40' water off points using Carolina Rigs with 1 oz egg sinker, 3' leader and live 4" Shiners on #2 Circle Hooks... that day those fish were pretty scattered and the fish we did mark were mostly at 15-20' a few near or at the bottom. We had 3 rods out per side for a total of 6 rods varying from 15' - 20' -25' deep slow trolling at less than 1 mph - Good Luck!
PS We fish for stripers and wipers pretty much the same way but with heavier rods.
