Hi ya’all. After many years of non fishing, I’ve returned. I recently acquired a ‘14 Triumph 190 Bay boat, and a couple inshore rods & reels. And I’m terrorizing the fish in San Diego bay. I had a good coach, that I still fish with, and on a bad day still bring aboard 12 fish. Yesterday was slowish, as in 4 hours got 1 short halibut, 1 nice sized sculpin, 2 good sized sand bass, and 7 spotted bass. All were returned to the bay.

Looking forward to reading everyone's stories and getting advice.

Sounds like fun. Welcome to Fishing Stage.

I was just in Carlsbad about 4 weeks ago. Buddy MStriler lives there is a musician. I was there for the final night of the Cantina. Tons of people there in the village. Mike played in the M-80s with Diamond Dave… as well

FisherJeff . . . Welcome to the Stage. Nice to have ya. Lotsa SD area anglers here. Now you, too. We are a mix of C & R and consuming anglers here, and get along just fine. And then there are "hybrids" like me. I wouldn't release a legal Tautog if ya held a gun to my head, and I have friends who appreciate a few trout for the table. Other than that, I don't harvest fish, like to give 'em a chance to grow large and die of old age.
Glad you decided to resume fishing, and to join us here. Good Luck & be safe.

Oh…here’s “Little White Triumph”…ready for a morning of fishing on San Diego Bay. Got a late start this day, because the front nav light didn’t come on. But, after banging the dock it seems to be resolved. Don’t ya hate intermittent problems?

If it’s intermittent it’s a poor connection, if it’s a light it could be a broken fillement

I removed the light. The harness was very tight, and no accessible connector. It was pretty wet on the bottom. I banged it around and it didn’t go out. So, I dried it, and reinstalled it with marine sealer. But, to make sure that doesn’t screw up another outing I bought battery operated nav lights that can be installed on the rails.

Adding to my “blog”.

I got a new rod and reel from Santa. The reel is a Shimano Tranx 150Hg bait caster on a Phenix Maxim rod. I decided to take my boat out on Oceanside Harbor, to tune in my new reel, and at the same time test how the fishing is in the harbor. After some trial and error…and bird nests, I seemed to find the right settings for nest free distance casting. As I get more accustomed to it, I’ll ease up on the controls for a bit more distance. But, I’m happy with it now.

Oh yeah, after about 4 hours, I’m convinced there are no fish in the harbor. I tried near the jetties, and in the center areas of varying depths, and even did a slow troll. I could see schools of baitfish and other larger fish on the Lowrance. But, no biting.

Going back to San Diego bay, where I’ve never been skunked.

I had some ok luck the other day on my birthday in San Diego Bay .
I launched at shelter island and went down by the Cop shop west of the pier and fished the shoal where it drops from the shoal to deeper water and bam ,caught this Hali, then went the opposite way to the other side facing the tip of harbor island and off the shoal there caught a nice cuda, there's a lot of fish in the bay just waiting for my lure to come along ! Or yours , I'm going early Friday morning supposed to be a good bite on between 5;00 and 9:00 tides for fishing says so !
