Northern kingfish. Look at the beard and the dorsal fin and you will be able to identify it in any saltwater fishing guide

Jt is a croaker and it is caught when fishing for whiting. Whiting are smaller than the fish in the photo, however, the croaker is as big and often bigger than the fish in this photo. The whiting are cleaned and split open and cooked whole[fried] They are great but have lots of bones.

Southern Kingfish version of the Whiting fish! Common coastal catch of Florida! Not the Whiting fish of N. Atlantic or Baltic sea!

Southern kingfish/whiting/sea mullet/Virginia mullet/who knows what else. All the same fish. Northern version of kingfish has a much longer filament on the dorsal fin than the southern variety. Both taste good no matter what you call them.

Here in NJ they are King Fish and yes, very tasty! But fillet them. Lots of bones and they can be eliminated with a good fillet knife and technique.
