I'm planning on trying some surfcasting for crabs and fish early next month when the Dungeness season opens and would appreciate any advice that I can get.

I normally take a group to Pacifica Pier but it's usually pretty crowded and I've heard that a portion of it is closed because of disrepair. When you combine the reduced square footage with the group of regulars that think they own the end of the pier (seen intruder's lines cut and fist fights) it's not someplace I want to take a family-oriented group.

I know how to snare crabs and how to pendulum cast but don't know:
(1) the best stretches--specifically Stinson since it's so long and diverse)
(2) what species to target and best rigs/bait to take
(3) info on access trails (I'm an old crow)
(4) tides to crab/fish and typical current strength (will determine wt of traps, range of lead, and beefiness of the pole that I take)
(5) Safety concerns. I'm staying out of the surf... need to know if I should take my 9mm if staying after dark.

Any advice (or company) would be greatly appreciated?

You can try Baker Beach just before G.G bridge city side but it's a hit or miss there. But just like anyplace else the crabs are either there or there not. We've pulled a few crabs out of there over the years but with not a lot of limits. We've also had some luck on the Marin side of the bridge with some limits taken at Rodeo beach on the north end by the rocks. But this place tends to get pretty windy with a fair amount of surfers showing up at times. Just 13 days left to go good luck

Stinson beach can be great for surf perch and occasional striper. Carolina rig with artificial sand worms or cast your favorite ( lucky craft ) anchovie imitation both work for perch and stripers. I use the main parking lot and fish right there or if crowed I move a little north towards Bolinas. I've never tossed snares their but Its all sandy which crab like and entrance to Bolinas lagoons holds Dungeness crab. Good luck Its not easy getting there.
