(MD) Strange day on the water.
We launched out of Slaughter creek and puttered around there till the sun came up then we hoofed it for the mouth of the river. Got out there and it was like glass. No birds working, very little wave action other than from other boats. Here's the kicker, the water was EXTREMELY CLEAR, like 20-30' visibility, something I have never seen on the bay. Unfortunately these pictures didn't turn out as well as I hoped, but you better mind your lower unit around the mouth of The Little Choptank. There are a lot of concrete chunks there in shallow water. We didn't do a whole hell of a lot of fishing due to the clarity of the water, it was like fishing the flats in The Keys, sufficeit to say my shoulders are killing me from poling all over the damn place. The perch are gone from the Slaughter creek side, I got 1 9" fish and that was it. We also got 1 16" Rockfish. The water temp in Slaughter creek is 52-55 degrees, the cold nights did us in Andy.
Rockfish, good gawd, schoolies were EVERYWHERE.The problem is, with the clarity the way it was, there was no drifting into them. As soon as you saw them, they saw you and were having no parts of it. The depth in those 2 pictures is 2-7' deep.
Our lakes around here sure are not that clear. At least no skunk, thanks for the pics

Nice report. The bay used to be that clear once upon a time be fore pollution.

I used to see the Gulf down in Ft. Walton Beach Florida on a daily basis in the early 70's with the water being so clear and definitely a beautiful sight it was.
In my early years going to Ocean City MD for fun, can't say i ever saw past my hand. Pollution for sure.

Actually it happens every year when the water cools. The phytoplankton dies off and the water gets super clear. When the water gets into the low 60s the plankton dies.
