Best bets for weekend fishing
Enjoy what’s left of this never-ending summer and get out fishing this weekend. It will be cold and wet soon enough.
• Fall Chinook and coho salmon fishing has been fair in the North Coast bays.
• In the SW Zone, Saunders Lake, Powers Pond and Middle Empire Lake are scheduled to be stocked with trophy trout this week. Bradley and Butterfield lakes also have been stocked recently.
• More than 13,000 coho salmon have been counted at Willamette Falls. While the river is still low, these fish will tend to concentrate at the mouths of tributary rivers such as the Yamhill, Mollala, Rickreall, Luckiamute and the Santiam, waiting for the fall rains.
• Trout fishing on the North Fork Santiam above Detroit Reservoir can be excellent this time of year. With winter approaching, trout are hungry and biting.
• There are still good numbers of large hatchery rainbow in the McKenzie River from Finn Rock Boat Landing down to Hendricks Bridge.
• Anglers report good kokanee fishing in the Metolius arm of Lake Billy Chinook.
• Fall River was recently stocked with trophy-sized rainbow trout and will receive another stocking of trophies this week.
• Yellow perch fishing remains good in multiple locations in the Klamath area, including the Williamson River, Crystal Creek and Fourmile Creek (Canal).
• In the hike-in lakes in the Sky Lakes and Mountain Lake wilderness areas the brook trout are moving into the shallows to spawn. Fishing should be excellent.

Doesn't your state have a weekly fishing report issued by the fish & game folks, DNR, what have you ?

Oregon is quite good to us in that regard, through the ODFW's "Recreational Report", a weekly issue that is great to find out what's what & where.
If Alabama doesn't have one, they should be encouraged to begin one. Fisherfolk, hunters, campers, hikers, etc., all come to depend on its ACCURATE reporting for planning their outdoor activities and adventures.
Now if only the meteorology folks would be able (?.....I am dreaming, of course !) to publish such an observably accurate report, every adventure would be stellar.....hope springs eternal.

They do put a report out monthly but it’s about last month. It would help visitors or when I try new lakes I have a routine for the most part. I have been fishing local lake for 5 years now not much problem. I am more of a live bait crickets from mid April to late September then minnows till cricket time. Local bait shops r helpful I do have a chance to talk to local pro from time to time.

Getting a fishing report from LAST MONTH is like getting a weather report from last month..... do we (why should we) really care ? Does it really have any relevance to THIS WEEK ?
Seems like that "last month report" would be the epitome of...."you should have been here yesterday"......... jeeeesh, some folks and their "helpfulness ".....

Thanks for the report, it’s nice to know some angler’s are good people. I need to find some of the winter salmon. Any news on good bank fishing? I don’t have a boat or a friend with one.

FoF....... I kept a journal for years while trying to figure out how Air temp, water temp, barometric pressure and direction, calendar date, sunny/overcast, day/night, depth, lure/bait choices, etc. affected my catch.
It was quite useful for some general information applicable to many situations that were present at various times and dates, and even more so the next season. Why not just accept that some folks like to try to be helpful. If it's of no interest to you, merely ignore it.

My "dis-favor" of a "last months report" was aimed at the state-issued report, which undoubtedly did NOT include weather conditions, etc., unlike your record keeping. I stand by my opinion of someone thinking they're being helpful by touting catch #s or such to compile such a report. We've all been privvy to hearing someone's success on such and such day "a while ago".
I suppose if you read the report in the very first week of the compilation's cutoff date (end of calendar month ?), it may hold some relevance, however, if you read it 3 weeks into the month..... same as a month-old weather report, imo.
Relevance and ability to utilize such info is obviously a personal preference, just stating mine....love it or not, don't really care, one way or another.
Have a good one folks.

I’m not getting into bloviating about one’s opinions, I’m just appreciative of real people who help others out. To take the time and effort of journaling then sharing valuable data to random strangers is honorable. Anyway, I’m still looking for good bank fishing for salmon or someone with a spot on a boat.
