it was really mishandled from the beginning now we have been sucked I to the conflict and I am not sure there are any good ways to get out and fear it will only get worse from here on. my question is if those in the disputed and occupied Ukraine are so closely aligned culturally and ethnically to Russia and if they really want to be part of Russia why is Russia k*****g so many of the civilians that they claim want to be part of Russia? it seems clear Russia is an invading army that will k**l and destroy until the people are either all k**led or surrender. but that being said is it really in our country best intrest to spend billions and billions in there defence and be drawn into a war that could turn into a nuclear war and or weaken our defence by depleting our military stocks making us more vulnerable to attacks by nations that are more directly our advisory like China. war is not some game of chess played by politicians it has real consequences and loss

You make some good points DC.

I thought the article pointed out many things that you are not going to hear from any of the US Media . I seriously doubt that a large percentage of generation x, millennials, or generation Z have any knowledge about the History of the Ukraine and it relationship with the USSR. (Yes, the former USSR). I do think it is a complicated and dangerous situation.

Very good read, thanks!
Hoping we did not bite off more than we can chew by sticking our nose, money and arms where we didn’t belong. Praying we did not over-extend ourselves which would prevent our defense against the others. Seemingly too much instability among the World Leaders.

there is more to this sad story concerning promises we made. we made an agreement with Russia and Ukraine that we would not agree to have Ukraine join NATO and Ukraine agreed to give up their bombers and some other things in return Russia would not attack and we would assure their security. of course Russia didn't live up to their agreement and under Oboma we let Russia invade and take back. Crimea(sp?) and under Biden we all but gave the green light for Russia to take more land as long as it was just a small incursion but then when Russia did a full out invasion we did just enough to prevent a complete take over and after the Ukrainians proved to be a better fighting force than anyone thought we increasingly stepped-up our support to the point we now are fully intangled in the war that will turn into another 20 year war at this rate. we never should have agreed to assure their security, once we did we should given them what was needed to win the war not just Prolong it, or just admit our pledge to them was a lie. you should only fight a war to win a war or stay out of it. why did Biden stop the plan to have some nato countries give ukraine soviet ere jets so they could have better stopped the invasion early on? if we were going to get involved why didn't we give them the military equipment before the invasion so that it may have been a deturent to the invasion before it started. real failure of leadership on this for many years

I agree with all that has been said so far. The first charge of any country is to protect its own citizens. We have recently become very vulnerable in several ways.

yes it is just my opinion that is what we are sharing here and from your perspective I'd be interested in your thoughts on this after all it will be good men like you who end up fighting this war if it keeps progressing. do you think this is a war that is worth our resources and possibly the lives of our young men and women? that is the bottom line in this discussion and I admit I don't have the answers just questions and opinions
