I would use 4lb test line.
And if using bait I would use 2lb test leader line from 18 to 24 inches long, with a sliding egg with.
I always start with the lightest size , then go heavier if I have to.
Power bait , Salmon eggs and nightclawers shoot the clawers with air so they flot

I never fished many stocked trout much, when I did a silver spinner worked well.
If they are fresh planters and you really want to target them there is power bait pellets that look just like the cat food they have been eating.
Powerbait colors I have always done best with is Chartreuse.. Fl Orange or Pink. In that order. I use a #16 or #18 treblehooks ( super micro ) on 4-8 lb test pending on if they bite bigger line or if break smaller line. Add gold glitter to Powerbait from craft storeโฆ itโs way WAY more effective than the plastic rainbow glitter they add.
Corn or garlic are other powerbait I add to the colors I suggested.
Use pencil lead ( large ) above swivel so fish do not feel it when they bite.
A casting bubble with a fly or a worm threaded on a #6 hook.
A Mepps size 0 or 1 black blade with yellow polka dots, or a Panther Martin spinner.
I have even caught them on a yellow jig with sweet corn threaded on the hook.
Good luck!
Ivan when I fished for trout in streams I'd use sz 8 hook n a small worm or meal worms. Cast up stream n let the current bring it downstream. Especially around undercuts or into eddys. Also a small white roostertail. Others use corn with or with a mini marshmallow. Good luck ๐
Just got back from several days on Pine Creek, Slate Run vicinity. The state stocked last week and the club this past Sat. The conditions were good. The creek was clear and flowing about normal for this time of year. We were using fly gear. Egg cluster patterns, squirmy worm, BWO, a tan-yellow Caddis if you spot it, and some other nymphs. The weekend saw a lot of people on the creek and things got better as the crowds diminished. Not much luck going up Slate Run.
if i go with spinners i use a white roostertail or a mepps black fury. a gold kastmaster is a good one , too

Ivan, exactly what Andy wrote. You can use night crawlers too but you need to put air in them so they float. Look it up up. Iโm not kidding.

Lots of great advice here.
I;ve had trout line up to grab a small piece of velvetta cheese. Try that when all else seems to fail. Good Luck
I have always had luck catching stockies on cream colored power bait with sparkles. A dab of that about the size of a pea on a # 12 or 14 hook with 2 or 4lb leader about 12 inches tied to a swivel with a 1/2 Oz egg siker on the main line. Also put a waxworm at the tip of the hook. You can put the wax worms on the hook first. The sparkles imitate fish scales
