Went fishing in the 65 degree Millstone River this evening for the first time in a while. Caught and released a largemouth bass with a small, black shad dart and 1.5” white twister tail on 2 lb test line on my first cast of the day. Didn’t get a hit while ultralight jigging after that. Landed 3.5 lb and 8 lb common carp with canned whole kernel corn on a #4 long shank gold hook and > 60 year old 4 lb test mono. Took a long time to reel in the big carp. Caught and released 2 yellow bullheads on 12 lb test line just before I left at night. Caught one on my last cast of the day. I’ll probably go fishing at Manasquan tomorrow.

Good morning, bands, thanks for sharing. You must be in the backwaters of the river, not a lot of current.

Near the dam. Every evening the current reverses and everything floating alongside the dam flows upriver and across my spot unless there is a strong downriver wind.

Brings back many memories. Fished the Millstone from the area near the route 130 circle near Hightstown and Peddie Lake. Excellent chain pickeral, carp and bass fishing. My son caught his first big chain pickeral at 7 years (26 inches)`, mine was a lunch hour 7 pounder on Mepps spinner along the bank. Largest one I know of was 9 pounds near the Prddie School bridge. Carp up to 25 pounds were regularly caught.

Garcia Fish Finder. Was stored in my cellar out of sunlight and in the dark.

Returned to my spot this evening in the rain. Threw out a can of corn for chum, then didn’t get a hit while ultralight jigging. Caught and released a 17” white sucker and 8.5” bluegill with canned whole kernel corn on a long shank gold hook and 4 lb test line before catching, then giving away a 4.75 lb common carp. Took a long time to reel in the carp. Also caught and gave away 6 lb and 4.5 lb carp on 12 lb test line.

Of course, this was in 1980's . Last time there, I caught a 30" pickeral and 2 pound largemouth during a local club March tournament after ice out.
