Howdy all fisherman and fisher ladies.... Alow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I'm here from Idaho for several months doing a project in old town Charleston.
Figured I better get some wonderful fishing in while I'm at it so I picked up a 20' Aquasport center console for doing some bay fishing. I'm totally new to fishing the ocean waters. I did get a bit of experience while living in RI for several years working and fishing when I could for striper, bluefish, rock bass, flounder, occasionally offshore for tuna. At that time I had a 25' wellcraft coastal cuddy which had no problem in the open water. I'm a little hesitant about taking the Aquasport out of the bay. Anyway, I am a newb to fishing in this area, any pointers will help. I have read a boat load about fishing the waters in this area on this site. What a great site...
A little about me.. I live in Boise with my wife, the kids are gone, off doing their own fishin and huntin. I have a 20' jet boat for chasing the steelhead and salmon on the salmon river out of Riggins also for catching kokanee salmon in the several reservoirs that have them, what a great tasting fish. I spent many of my earlier years as a professional hunting guide here in Idaho on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River (Frank Church Wilderness Area), Pistol cr. to be exact. I spent quite a few years cowboying at many of the ranches in the wilderness area also around the Sawtooth's and White Clouds out of Stanley.
I would really enjoy hooking up with someone that would take the time to show me the area and how to fish it, maybe bend a rod a few times. I'm here till the end of February.... Cheers, Mike.
I'm from Idaho but fishing in South Carolina, Isle of Palms for several months, you put me in the Idaho fishing section. Please remove that

Welcome Mike, to the stage. You can PM Admin to change your location.
Gordon is the man in Charleston. He fishes both inshore and offshore down there. If you don't hear from him, send him a PM. Good luck and Tight Lines.
Welcome Mike, I hope you find what you are looking for! Good luck!

Welcome aboard Mike. There are plenty of Sheepshead at the jetties along with some bull Reds. Whiting are there also in about 25 to 35 ft. Nit sure if the King Mackerel are still just out side the jetties trolling or live baiting. Just north of IOP behind Capers you can find some trout reds and flounders. Hope that helps you out some.
Thanks Gordan. is the fishing for sheepshead around docks and piers any good?? The reds seem like a lot of fun and good eating. I would like to pack my freezer with good eating fish to take back home...

The rock jetties are good. Inshore, yes docks and bridge pylons. Try the IOP bridge pylons. The pylons on the I-526 bridge.
Thats what I figured...there's some pretty good info out there on this. looking forward to getting out. I have a few things I need to do to the boat before I feel comfortable tossing it in the water which i hope will be this week. I have plenty of gear... do you guys use nets or lip grabbers, I'll be fishing alone most the time??
the other question is what type of anchor do you use in the parts. I can't quite afford a $2,000 trolling motor with anchor on it at this time, hell, thats half what my boat cost...

I mostly use a danforth anchor. A plow Anchor works good also. At the jetties I Drill a hole in a foot long 2x4 and tie the rope through the hole and toss it in the jetties. It will wedge in there then back up and toss your Danforth out the back of the boat. Then you can pull your self close to the rocks. Want to fish straight down out there.

I use a net. If it is legal it goes home.
