Can you imagine that. The greatest bass fisherman in the SF Bay Area is gone, out playing, out of action during the biggest bass tournament!
Steve, are you just trying to share the wealth?
We have some great fishermen here. Time to step up in Saw’s absence.

Saw1 will probably be sharing the tournament water with Mark Wilson, the "Striper Guy" on the Delta. Between the two a betting man should do a paramutual wager on both to win the tournament. Last year my buddy and i were invited by MW to fish on the Playin' Hookey out of Rio Vista after begging him for a couple of years. We were in the presence of another master, like Saw1 he thinks like a striper. His record is 51lbs a few years back, and we limited out that day with him in a few hours. Interestingly enough, he approaches fishing in a similar way as Saw1. I've never met Saw1, but i learned from "the Stage" that he does a fast and shallow troll, long set-back, lipless divers with rattles, also broken back Yo-Zuri's and Rapallas with a short bill. Same as MW who also hangs a plastic white or yellow worm on the back tri-hook to give the lure guidance-- not sure if Saw1 does the same. But it's just not technique that makes these 2 guys great, we found out the hard way. They know the waterways, the shoals, the holes. This knowledge takes years of experience under different adverse conditions of wind, current and tide. They also have buckets of patience, i've got a short suit there. I'm learning from two very generous masters and i feel very fortunate to be here in Sonoma County. Most of us, me included, get stingy with our fishing secrets, but these guys pass it forward. We have a lot more to learn. Tight lines.
