I'm new to this group but what a great idea! Just moved to San Leon Galveston County from Denver CO. Wow can it get hot here. There is a pier at the RV site where I have been doing so night fishing. I caught a 4 ft alligator gar and a huge stingray. That and hundreds of gafftops. I hear that October when the water cools you can catch plenty. My experience is catching browns and rainbow trout
Any advice regarding bait tackle, where and when to go and advice on landing a monster gar with no help? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard Dardee, my grandson has been fishing 🎣 in Baycliff, San Leon area a lot recently. He has been using dead shrimp 🍤 and lures and is catching a variety of fish Reds, Croaker, Specs, Flounder, Stingrays, Gafftops, and of coarse Hardheads. Most have under size though he has brought he a couple of keeper Flounder. He mostly fishes the canal that comes out at Bayshore Park. This canal was originally built for cooling water for the Electric Generating plant that is no longer there.
Welcome to Texas, you'll love the fishing in your area. Saltwater fishing is my favorite because you never know what you'll catch, a you have found out. Keep fishing.
Darden,
Welcome to TX, I’m a little jealous! My goal is to go to Galveston and fish. I’m in Fort Worth, Tx. Just a beginner, caught a 5 lb fresh water drum, crappie and sun perch. I’m wanting to get a Red Drum. Good luck on your new adventures in TX.
