They routinely stock stripers in Cherokee. In summer they tend to congregate near the dam, holding at depths around 60 feet. I have the most success with live shad. As temps cool down they start moving upstream towards the steam plant near Rogersville. In cooler mornings they sometimes hit top water plugs. They hard part is finding them when they start moving. If you like bass fishing you also have Douglas lake. Leadvale access is great place to launch a kayak. It near white pine off Leadvale Rd.

Where to buy live shad? I’ve found baby shad in a package at Walmart and Dick’s, like a plastic worm package. And at 60’, do you just go straight down from the boat and use a bobber, or just jigging it up and down? So exciting to find new fish and techniques! 🤗

I made some outriggers, and I put a trolling motor and battery in my kayak so that I do not have to paddle. I can now get much further away from the boat ramp in order to find the fish. I have not been able to find any fish when leaving from Panther Creek. Any help that you might give would be highly appreciated. For example, as I come out into the main lake, if I turn right, how far would I have to go to find the proper bay that has weeds or grassbeds. I’m thinking that all of the people that win the bass tournaments are not fishing in the areas that I am! It seems that every place I fish is either a rock or clay bottom. I’ve been fishing five times per week from either Panther Creek, or Cedar Hill, and all I have gotten were a couple of catfish, which were quite tasty. But I would prefer to catch some bass for the sport of it, and some walleye, or similar, in which to eat. Do any of you have any advice for me?

If you head over to the public dock across the bridge in Dandridge, you can put your kayak in there. The crappie are starting to hit in 20 to 25 feet of water on minnows. Sometimes the wind and the current are a bit of a challenge but there's plenty of coves and inlets you can work that will shelter you on a windy day. TVA is lowering water levels but cooler temps and water should help catch crappie. You may also get a catfish, drum or bass. I caught a 15 inch walleye off the dock at that launch. You could also try launching your kayak at Concord Park in Knoxville off North shore Drive. They have a kayak launch there near the T-dock. You can fish around the railroad underpass which is right near the dock. Hope this info helps you. Go nail'em.

I go out before sunrise and hit docks with lights and cast net shad. With stripers I put out side planers and downrigger to get to depth. Usually have a large bait on surface.

I haven’t fished for stripes for a while but I have caught many just trolling or suspending large shiners. Sounds like you have your yak set up pretty good,if you have a good fish finder they are easy to spot because they swim in schools. Just locate where they are and drop a shad or shiner just above them as they see above because of the way there eyes are made. Hope you catch a trophy.

Are the shad or shiners live? Where do you get them?

Once I’m in the water, are there any particular spots that I should target?

I have a map showing the different depths, but I don’t know how accurate it is with the drawdown

You can use your map and see what it says for depth on a spot then either measure it off by counting line to the bottom or use a depth finder to see how much lower that point is then subtract that amount from everything else you see.

If you put in at the ramp and go to the furthest cove to the right the channel runs along the right side that will be the deepest parts but there have been a bunch of hybrids back in that cove

You can buy shiners at most bait stores. A through net is the best way to get shad but I have caught many on medium to large shiners once you located them troll over them repeatedly until they start hitting or just suspend a couple rods just above them. Once they start biting they sometimes start a feeding frenzy. I have caught as many as 30 in the same area. But trolling shiners are a good way to locate them. And a fish finder takes the guesswork out of it.
