Righty or Lefty?

So how many of you right handers use a right-hand reel, and why? Same for lefties - do you use a left-hand reel? I ask because I am right-handed, but always set my reels up left handed so I never change hands to crank the reel after I cast. I'm just curious about this.

I use/do both left and right-handed reels according to which bait I am using.

Exactly, I'm right handed and I cast right hand but never switch hands. I crank left hand.

When I was a kid my dad had right handed reals. That is what I learned on. At about 21 I moved away. Have not fished more than 50 years. Plan to start again. Will get right hand reals

Some of us had learn on old reels with handles on one side only! Kind of like tree trimmers cut with right handled tools only! Seen a left handled chainsaw? Bet they would cut better if they had one! Why not get the right or left handled reel that`s best for ya? See any left handed baseball player useing the right handed gloves? OK switch hitters too! Boat or casting reels go on top and spinning reels hang down! See them mixed up too and reeling backwards?

I’m a long times spinning real guy and use my left hand to retrieve. In the last few years I’ve bought a few bait casters. I bought a right had retrieve bait caster first and had to return for a left hand retrieve reel. I still use my spinning reels but I’m starting to use and enjoy the bait casting setup.

Been fishin' all my life and ALL my reels of every kind (spinning, bait cast, even spin cast; yes I still like them for certain situations) have all been right cast and left reel. I'm just not ambidextrous at fishin'.

Not sure it matters one bit to the fish. I recommend you use what you are most comfortable with. I use spin and bait cast reels, but prefer to reel both with my left hand. I can use a right hand reel, but prefer to reel with my left. I'm set enough in my ways not to get too hung up on the differences.

yes, cast with right hand reel in with left, using spinning reels and fly reels.
