Hello everyone I’m ceb. I’m new to fishing and need guidance. I’m interested in inshore fishing and blue crab. As a young boy I did some fishing and crabbing in Md. I’ve forgot most of what I knew and need to start over.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for good areas to try. Thanks

Well you've made the first step by joining up here. There's few thousand years of experience here, ready and available. Btw, you start with a rod and a reel. Fresh or salt water?
I’m definitely salt water. Tried fresh water years ago and got to be a pro at feeding the fish.
I have wanted to try crab fishing with trout line.

Next.... boat, surf or pier?
16’ boat 70 hp. Need advice on rods, reel , line, lures or live bait. Like I said I’m new!
Good starting point would be a simple spinning outfit. I'd start with a rod of around 7 feet so it's easy to handle on your boat. Personally I'd use a spinner in the medium heavy range to heavy range. Add a Penn 500 series spinner with 30 pound braid line. You can use this step for casting or bouncing bait off the bottom . You could even do some light trolling. Rigging for terminal gear will depend on what you try to catch.

Your listed location is Winter Park......that's a long way from saltwater
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at your picture. I want to get to that point!
I’ll start looking up gear. I’ll get as close as I can. I’ll probably go to Bass Pro if you think that’s good.
Ceb,
Bass pro shop is pricey on some equipment. Walmart has good stuff to start with. It won’t break your purse strings. The other thing that I suggest is look up Salt Strong. It’s a group of guys from around Florida that put out some good tips. Check your local paper for the fishing column.
Mike
Tight lines and calm seas
Try local paper TV and Radio fishing reports. Local tackle shops will have guide cards and advice. Local fisherman often share with others at these tackle shops. used equipment at garage sales and yard sales as well as estate sales mY be a bargain basement for you. Woods and Water magazine as well as other Florida based fishing magazines.
I would start out in walmart and step up to Dicks sporting goods the price is cheaper than pro bass but higher than
walmart. All depends on how much you fish and how much money you want to spend?????best of luck
tightlines
Winter Park isn’t that far from saltwater, bro. It’s basically Orlando. I lived in St. Cloud and traveled 45 miles to the beaches and intercoastal rivers (Indian, Banana, and even Titusville to Mosquito Lagoon). He’s actually closer to the Lagoon than I was. You can get to fishable saltwater in about 45 minutes.
Ceb, try Walmart like most have mentioned. The gear is reasonable to get started. Try some of the areas I mentioned above. Cocoa and Eua Gallie have a few public ramps along US1. Get there early and try top water baits around the docks. You’ll get a variety of fish from reds, trout, and jacks. Look for bait schools and feeding fish. Hope you the best.
Hi Mike, really appreciate the response. Looks like I have some home work to do. I’ll take your advice and start at Walmart. It may be a while before I get back to you, my motor has a fuel problem. Thanks Ed
Thanks for the info. I will look into all of the info. Hope to get out there soon.

Check the filter. That's where I found the problem with mine. Also pump out some fuel and see if any crud settles out.
