We are boating and trolling for fish in Ponderay Lake. At what depth are you finding is best when trolling? New to the lake, any advice on good locations would be very helpful.

Hi PT. Haven't fished that lake but been on it since my wife's relatives live in Sand Point. More visiting cut into any fishing time. If you are using a depth finder you may be a little confused if suddenly see 1900 feet show up. The navy used to test replica subs in that lake. Not sure what period of time, but that is one, CLEAR, cold, gorgeous lake.

Just went last Monday. We trolled at 30’ - 130’. Hardly had any bites. Caught 1 fish. I think the full moon isn’t helping. Another week, maybe sooner. Good luck out there.

Hey pt, fished yesterday, hooked a fair amount of kokonee but lost most right at the boat, ended up with 7 or 8 which isn't that many. All were small but they are always tasty. Ponderey is a big lake so where to fish is anybody's guess. We launched at faragut state park and fished that end of lake.I have fished the lake a fair amount especially the past six years and still haven't caught that big one. I still have so much to learn. What your fishing for will determine how and the way you troll. Yesterday few kokanee were caught with our downriggers, 30 to 100 feet. Most were caught with 2oz weight 150 feet back not using downriggers.Anyway hang in there some days you catch them and some days you don't. It's a beautiful lake so if the weather is good you can't go wrong.

Sorry to be late on the reply. Thanks for yours. We took 2 more trips to Ponderay Lake and on the last day I finally got a
Northern pike minnow, which was my first every caught fish. I was excited about my catch, which was dashed by the negative response from experienced fishermen. Well, with some help I got it out of the well and wrapped it in cloth since it was really slippery. He was a fighter! All is well and hoping to catch another type of fish on next boating trip. I am thinking of purchasing a charter to get some more experience.

Thanks PT for the reply, my mother passed earlier this year and I have had to deal with a lot of estate issues, so unable to fish much this year. Fish are always fun to catch no matter what size. I think that is a good idea to book a charter and learn what you can . The technique, trolling speed, depth, water temp all play a part. I don't know of a good charter outfit but maybe someone out there can help. Have fun it sounds like your getting started🤗👍

Sorry for you loss and we have also lost family this year (son). We started to appreciate the small thing more and try to keep ourselves busy while healing.
Understand your position on spending time for yourself while dealing with family things.

We are sorry for your loss as well. We all know it is part of life, and life goes on but it is still tough. As you said it takes time to heal. Wish you the best of luck and many more fun fishing adventures.

PT. When we fish the lake for Kamloops we usually plan on a two day trip.
Launch at Sam Owen and slow trolling out and ending up at Evans Landing or Maiden Rock. You can pull your
boat in close at either place (but be reallll crefull about it) There is a picnic area at each area, and we usually
spend the night. It's been a while but I think Maiden Rock area is only accessable by boat. So bring what you
need and, don't use your boat battery for the radio and run it down! Get up next morning and repeat the trip in reverse. Fishing with a "Point Special" with about 3/4 oz. on 150' of line usually gets some good results. But, it's
all fishing and not necessary catching. You can't beat the vistas of the magestic Monarchs or the grandure of the
lake it's self. Have fun, be carefull, as you are all alone. Do tell someone where you are going and about what
time you should return! At times the lake can become real nasty but, a good skipper can usually come through
anythins the lake can hand out

Luck to you! Crunchy
