Well, thank Goodness it is September, rather than January as if we had the equivalent in snow…as we have had in rain we would be screwed big time. We have had 4.95” of rain in the last 24 hours. If it was 30 degrees cooler we would have been dealing with over 4’ of snow. That being said, Our sump pumps have been working overtime since yesterday morning. I am certain the back yard resembles what those who watched the 49ers/Bears game saw yesterday.
I am scheduled to play in a charity golf outing starting (for Autism research) at 11am. It will be a miracle if it actually happens as the private course which is supposed to host the event is in a pretty flat area of the State (in Kenosha County). They may be better off hosting a fishing tournament today 😂
Have a great day all and Good Morning!

Your 4' is like flurries here OJ. Complete shut down, backed up on hills, grid locked, and oh crap it might total an inch now and then. So glad i can sit home now and say " Let it Snow "

So do you have a back up power for the sump pump?

Not yet, but I have a BIL who works for Generac…it may be time to consider a backup generator as the weather is certainly more severe nowadays as compared to the recent past.

There are 2 other options the first and most widely used is a back up battery.

The other works off house water pressure no power source needed with that. Of course if you are on a well that wouldn't work if the power to the house goes out.

We are on city water, so I can look into both (and should)

If you can't find the water power source let me know. I just pulled up water powered sump pumps and quite the selection out there.

That’s a lot of rain. We only had 2.2” down here in my area.
Since your BIL works for General, it might be worth looking into a whole house generator that can run your home in a power outage. Especially run the furnace, A/C, refrigerator, stove, etc.

It went pretty well considering the conditions. There were about a dozen no-shows, but those who played spent a lot of money on raffle tickets at the dinner after. There were some nice prizes which were donated and those created a lot of interest. All my tickets were losers, but it was still fun getting together with some friends.

Plum I always havta know how stuff works. So here goes up to where i get confused.
1.)You need a dedicated water line that you can shut off with an isolation valve when not in use.
2.) This , when opened up, turns an impeller that drives a pump with it's own impeller to pump out basement.
3.) Where does the house / municipal supply water go after it passes the drive impeller, to the sewer system or outside the house somewhere ?
The best part of suburban life could well be independence from a well water source, and not just during power failures. Wells are a royal P I A for a bunch if reasons, and a pipefitter has seen 'em all , yeah ?
My worst : A mouse crawled into the electrical disconnect in the well house, grounded out one side, fried himself and blew one fuse. The single phase event burned up the pump motor. Plumber came out & replaced switch, ( was pretty much toast ) winched up and replaced pump, knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Neighbor watched and gained a new respect for blue collar work. I had it already from Industry. Everybody loves a plumber when they need one !
