Tilapia are considered an invasive species. There not that easy to catch. But i am seeing more nesting in our small community pond. What is the concensus on this fish, kill it to preseve the bass fishery or release it for the catch to eat crowd?

If you can catch them .... eat them. They are very good eating but take care of them right away as they will soften. Put on ice right away.
check to see if you can cast net them

You can cast net them in Florida.

The best thing is to make an ice slurry, lots of ice with some water, plunge them under the water and ice. It wouldn't hurt to do this with any fish or crabs you keep. Look them up on google. They are a clean up fish which isn't a big deal as so are crabs and lobsters and we relish them. Mike

You are quite right. Do you eat crab? They do the same thing. The crap doesn't go to their meat as they take what's left and pass the rest. Still I don't eat them either. Mike
Dropped into Florida canals to reduce vegetation and now out of control! Mostly like mullet eat plants, but do destroy native fish bedding areas and disrupt other native fish. Will multiply in great numbers and compete for oxygen in water reducing native fish population in long run! Fine dining in fancy restaurants? Pass for finer tasting seafood!
I think the " crap " is heavy, HEAVY vegetation and they eat all the cover for fish

I like eating Tilapia and all of mine are bought from the store. Can't abide carp no matter how it is cooked.

Tilapia are good eating. Fresh caught is best.
