Good morning, o great and wise ones. Can I use braided line on an ultralight setup? What would be the best size and can I use that for both lures and TR senkos/power worms or would I need a different setup? I’m not fond of mono or fluoro because of memory and line twist but it sure makes for a nice cast with a Rebel bumble bug, which is 7/64 oz and an old favorite of mine. Can’t get anywhere with it on my usual 20 lb braid/12 lb mono leader. I don’t want to have to carry two poles because I often have to trek a distance to the pond and I prefer to schlep as little as possible. I’m usually targeting LMB and am lucky to catch anything over 3.5 lb. these days…but I’d like to be prepared for something a little bigger just in case. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Good morning, Betts they do make 4# and up braid and it will work just fine on your ultra-lite setup. I have 6# on mine, works great. LOOPS, If you get that dreaded loop in your spool, open bail place finger on rim and pull line slowly until you get to the loop. by placing finger on spool like this It will keep your line from all coming off at one time and turning into mess. I hope this helps

all my ultra lites have 4 or 6# braid. I use a 24" fluoro when I'm bait fishing, otherwise it's direct tie.

Can't answer the ultra question Betts, but it appears you can from the other post. So just giving my own experience tip.

Don't cast into the wind with braid to often. Wind knots will not be your friend.

Consider using a 15lb or 20 lb fluro leader with that braid after you try straight braid fishing and see if the the catching is less.

For what it's worth, I use 8 or 10lb braid, with a 6lb mono leader on my Ultralights. I have trouble with braid below 8lb being too thin and digging into the line on the spool. Trying to keep a 3lb Bass from running into the weeds or trees requires some pressure, especially from the bank. Also be careful with pulling thin braid with your hands. It will slice into your skin like a hot scalpel through butter. Don't ask me how I know this.

I would laugh at that last part Fred, but been there too. Doesn't take more than 4 or 5 times before it sinks in.

Oh it sinks in the first time Bob, right to the bone. It just might take 4 or 5 times to learn.

What's worse Fred, a metal cut, paper cut, or that slice from the fillet knife?

They're all about the same Bob. Anything that's really sharp, cuts smoothly, and that's the hardest type to heal. Rough cuts heal quicker, when the white blood cells have something to grip on.
It's just like gluing 2 things together. Smooth surfaces don't glue together well. Scuff up the surfaces and give the glue some teeth to grab onto.

I must be missing a lot of white cells in my aging condition ( getting old ) seems cuts and bruises take a lot longer these days.

Good tip on the gluing. Thank you.

That works with any type of bonding, even bondo on cars. Once you sand it down to bare metal, put some 60 or even 40 grit on and scuff up the metal. The bondo will stick much better.

Will do. A while back either you or another user mentioned treating my fenders with a rust preventive before applying primer. I am going to re do the fenders once again because the fenders showed rust within 2 months of painting.

I figure early October ought to be a good time line. Do you recall the name of the rust preventer?

It wasn't me Bob, and I don't recall who or what it was. I know guys who use POR15 on chassis that they are restoring, but thats a more coarse surface than a fender.
