Hello! Since we can't seem to catch a dang thing turning to good ole technology/discussion boards! Something that we didn't have 30 years ago when I went fishing with my dad!
I purchased a use 2004 18' stingray in July we have been launching from Mere Point. We have had fish jumping all around us (poggies) we have seen sturgeon jump! We have tried lures all types, mackerel chunks, blood worms, sand worms .....we have tried casting, trolling, jigging on the bottomwe have tried it all. Even attempted off Fort Popham from land all with zero success. Not a bite! Yesterday I thought I had something.... finally....I had the bottom and lost another not cheap lure/jig. At the exact same time my husband snagged the exact same thing but he wrangled his to let go and he didn't loose his equipment. Figures!
We have tried all around mere point area, yesterday we ventured further north up into Harpswell could see Lands end. We even attempted to go to Dolphin marina for lunch (bad idea on Saturday of labor day weekend) we got stopped and boarded by the coast guard! We passed! Woohoo! Can land the coast guard but fish....nope..not s thing.
I tried fishing off camp Ellis jetty's with my brother a decent fisherman. We tried for strippers and mackerel didnt even get a bite. No one else landed anything either.
Any suggestions tips? We have tried for mackerel, strippers, even heard blues were out so got steel leads and tried for them.
Thanks in advance for any ideas tips suggestions. We haven't gone at ideal times we've gone out 9a-630p but never super early or out late. Tonight storms possible so my night fishing idea is a no go.
Happy labor day all! I hope you all have a wonderful safe holiday!

Fish bottom rig with squid or shrimp.
hey jen
we live in phippsburg got a ramp to the kennebec at the end of our street. we cant get out very often and when we do its not that great. sounds like u guys are out in the ocean a bit. theres a "alleged" hot spot near seguin lite houseim not sure of compass direction but its maybe 1/4 1/2 mi towards brunswick. its a rough area in a south wind
[which is most of the time] use your sonar look 4 a steep long dropoff
Best fishing is dawn, dusk and at night during the new moon. If you put bloodworms on a bait saver hook at the end of a 20 lb test fluorocarbon leader you will catch striped bass. Post pics.

I regularly launch at Merepoint and catch stripers all the time. Best method is to catch live mackerel. Use a Sebeki jig with small silver jig attached for a sinker. Macs are schooling throughout the bays. Put the live Mack’s in your live well. Hook the Mack’s in the back just behind the head and then live line with them off the ledges, islands, or even the the flats. I use 24” of heavy mono for a leader w/ circle non offset hook. No need to even go as far as Whaleboat, the bays are full of fish and beginning to fatten up for the southern migration.
