I love how these creatures, even though we hunt their mother and Buck deer can befriend their Apex predator man yet show affection like a dog.

Have a preacher friend that had an orphaned juvenile buck that visited him and his wife snapping green beans in their back porch, they had apple trees also they peeled and canned. The little buck came everyday to take a handout and munch on their lawn. One morning so dumb redneck neighbor shot it and carried it away, but blood was all over the spot the little deer was shot. My friend cried like a baby because he became attached to the little creature and it broke his heart. I told him that eventually the deer would have grown up and went wild, but whoever killed that baby deer was an ass!

Passingbye, I don't know the game laws in NC, but if that juvenile deer was LEGALLY harvested, he was within his rights to do so. If not, it would be up to your Fish and Game authorities to take the appropriate actions. In my state, we have a dedicated phone line to report poaching, and some people use it. I agree this was a sad event, but there are those who think that C&R fishing is cruelly tormenting living creatures, and human consumption of animals is pure evil. They're not our type of people, but they are entitled to their opinions and are free to abstain.
We are also free to engage in other legally sanctioned hunting and fishing activities. We do not require approval from those folks who don't think our actions are correct. Just thinkin' about the bigger picture.

These were sent to me a few years ago, but I had to share.
I wish I knew the back story of this yearling doe, though.

May have sentenced that doe to death, mother smells people, and often times abandons offspring
