I am looking for flys to use in the cle elum and yakima areas now through the middle of oct. We are visiting family and I would like to catch some trout. Thanks y'all in advance.
Jim
Hoppers and other terrestrials are working in Eastern Wa/Northern Idaho. Would expect the same for the Yakima River. Check with local bait or fly shops and see what they recommend. Also check the WDFW regulations as there are restrictions on what you can use in that river system. I'd personally use a foam hopper with a Prince Nymph or Pheasant tail dropper fished 18-24 inches below the hopper. Good luck!
Hello saw your post there is an alternate to the main freeway 82 and a road 821 that travels from Cle to Yakima runs along the Yakima River. has good fishing and a great fly shop Reds fly shop

Hey Jim, There's a fly shop right there in Ellensburg.. we had nothing to write home about at those two little ponds off the main drag.. good luck
Smallies supposed to be going crazy on the North side of the Columbia River Bridge..
Really appreciate the info y'all. Got a small rainbow under a bridge near the yakima, lotsa fun scouting. Tomorrow I'm trying the yak in the canyon. What flys work right now?
