Got a buddy from work visiting Japan soon. He asked if I wanted him to pick me up something. I couldn’t think of anything at that time and told me think about it. I’m now thinking of asking him to pick me up a new Shimano reel. Looking to spend maybe $200 max. I know the Shimano Scorpion is Japan’s version of the Curado, but I know you can get these here too.
Not sure if Shimano or Daiwa products are cheaper in Japan than here.

Honestly you can order almost any of the JDM reels to the states from plenty of shops in Japan.

Yeah, but now I don’t have to pay the shipping and handling. Hopefully they’re also cheaper there too.

They won’t be cheaper, also many places provide free shipping, honestly most places I’ve paid shipping too have been less than $15 and it gets to the us in 2-4 days

Also, YEN to USD is just all right not a stellar exchange rate currently. So figure about $1 USD for every 100 YEN at current rates.

As to Japan tackle shops for buying reels, I can recommend
https://www.digitaka.com. They offer good prices (even for JDM) and free worldwide shipping on reels
