Good morning, teribdixon, welcome to the Forum. Enjoy the fishing and tour the Fort, while you are there, it's interesting.
If you want to fish on the beach use spinning rods, two hook leaders 2/0 or smaller, 1-2 oz pyramid weight, and dead shrimp. Same thing on Gulf State Park pier. Sometimes there are some special "A" kind of folks on the pier with gopro youtube stuff that act like they own it.
Hey if you’re staying down on Fort Morgan Road you can fish right off the beach and catch a ton of catfish and other things. Spinner rod a 1 ounce bell sinker fish it Drop shot or Carolina style and a use shrimp treble hook and you will catch more than You want. Saltwater cats. fun but don’t eat them and watch out for the spines. Best When the waves are calm very tough if the waves are big You’ll also need a pair of needle nose pliers because you don’t wanna touch them slimy ass things

Just curious, did the grand kids catch any fish and all have a good time in LA? (lower alabama)
