RIP the goose that laid the golden egg

In 1787, Alexander Tyler who was a Scottish History Professor at the University of Edinburgh, said this about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2000 years earlier:

“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that v**ers discover they can v**e themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always v**es for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse doe to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

Have we now sadly reached this point in our history. Are we now seeing that we are feasting on and picking the last meat off the bones of the goose that laid the golden egg? Are we now as a country content with asking "ask not what you can do for the country but what the country can do for you"? Sadly I fear we are watching the final destruction of our nation, a once great nation that could not be defeated from without but now is being defeated from within as a result of internal moral rot and pure selfish greed. I know lot of individuals on this forum gave and sacrificed a lot for this nation but that kind of wiliness to make sacrifices for the good of the nation seems to me hard to find these days among the majority our nation was founded and build on love of God, Love of Family, and love of country this has all been replaced by love of self, love of money, love of pleasure. Can this be turned around? and no it will take more than a simple e******n it will take a change of heart. I Know this may offend some but the t***h often offends and that is why I posted this in the attic

DC, I hope you are wrong, but I see no evidence to the contrary.
It hurts deeply.

Excellent post DC, as a democracy we are just youngsters, being more of an experiment rather than something more precisely designed. Those cultures that lasted thousands of years did not have “elected” representatives, but they also ultimately collapsed. Looking at the history of multiple attempts at governing the populace, it would appear that as long as the human race remains tribal we will continue to have “temporary “ governance that eventually gets replaced with a “new order “.

I fear that your post is accurate DC. Too much “What is in it for me?” in politics. Make promises, get the job, v**e yourself a nice healthcare and pension plan and leave without accomplishing much of anything.

Here we go ,, this weekend I urge everyone not to drive too far or you might just fall off the flat end of the the earth, why would I or any other true American take the word of Tyler? Didn't the United States Secede from Great Britain in 1776 ? Seems like you've given up to easily DC, when we start turning on one another albeit here on a small forum and then try to be friends on the Fishing Stage, it's a little bit hypocritical, Rip has it right it's turned into Tribal warfare, I know ,,, why not go fishing instead of fishing for sides ?🤙✌

How ironic are your words, Jar. You have just reinforced the “t***hs” written by Tyler with your words here!
The t***hs which are repeating themselves AGAIN, are also prophesied in the Bible. Do you not believe that, either?…..

“You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and h**e what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with p***e, and love pleasure rather than God.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:1-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/116/2ti.3.1-4.NLT

“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/116/1ti.6.10.NLT

I could go on and on, but hopefully, you get the point. 🙏🏻
