I caught this species of brim I think it’s a redspot sunfish. I think that’s a flathead cat that fd caught. Third was my keepers for the day. Fd had a channel and 5 brim to go with that cat. What do y’all think? Do I have it right on species?

Looks like a flathead to me. Caught a few last time out in Lake Moultrie.

Out of my range of expertise as well, but they're nice ones anyway. Thanks for the pictures Reb.

After some review, I find cross errors in both written and photo's info for the redbreast (auritus) and the True sunfish
(Lepomis). The redbreast sunfish is in all likelihood the fish we are referring to..

The Lepomis or true sunfish is neither a bluegill or red ear sunfish.

The Sunfish looks like what we call a Longear in these parts.

They look nearly the same, but a true long eared sunfish has a light border around the item we are calling an ear. Long eared is what I was thinking until I stared at it knowing something did not look quite right, so I looked them up.
