So, the CCA is active all over the place. Are you a member as I am, what is your opinion of the organization and how have they helped the fishery in your area?

I’m assuming they have the same goals as our chapter in Louisiana. Great organization. They along with our legislators, sportsmen and women, passed laws prohibiting the gill netters and purse seiners from decimating our speckled trout and redfish fisheries. They help fund and get corporations to sponsor artificial reefs inshore and offshore. They do the same with coastal erosion projects. They also sponsor the Star tournament with $750,000 in prizes. This just scratches the surface. To answer your question, joining them is a great thing if they really believe in conservation for the public in general. Attached is the link to our Star tournament.

I'm a life member but wish I had my $1000 back. Seems like they are obsessed with offshore reefs and don't seem that concerned with water quality in the bay which is why so many species have declined. We've been on C/R with Trout, Reds, and Snook off and on for decades

Florida needs to get their DEQ in gear. Your CCA has enough pull to get things done legislatively. If Louisiana can do it, 35 years ago, Florida can damn sure do it. Kick some a$$ Sinker.

If it weren’t for the efforts of the CCA we wouldn’t have a steelhead run left on the Willamette river. Sea lions travel 120 miles up river to feast on the steelhead at the Willamette Falls in Oregon City, Oregon. Since removing them permanently in 2019 we have increased the population of steelhead in the river a great deal.

Good organization. Great goals. Years back, a buddy of mine won the star tournament in my area 2 times. He didn’t fish for reds or specks. He won it catching gaff top catfish...lol

A friend who has a place next to ours at Fourchon has won a boat with a tagged redfish and an offshore package, tackle, gear, etc…, worth $5k for the largest red snapper of the tournament. Needless to say he must be sitting on a horseshoe. 😁

Maybe so, but it's no secret the Redfish population in your area is declining....and recently people were getting sick off oysters from there as well. That's a water quality issue

Vibrio vulnificus is present in seawater at all times. I had an infection from it by being pinched through the fingernail one summer. It swole up like a sausage within 24 hours and took 30 days of high dose Keflex to kill it. I was lucky. The doctor told me they usually end up in amputations. Some even in death. It’s more prevalent and active in summer months when temperatures are elevated. The old saying about eating oysters in months that have an R in them is mostly true. If you have any immune deficiency health related issues it’s wise to only eat them cooked. Don’t know where you heard our redfish are in decline but that’s just not true. Even with a 5 fish per person per day limit, it’s no problem filling a limit.

Took me a while to remember about the redfish but it finally came to me......was on one of those fishing shows I believe.....some guy that's a guide around there said that, was pushing for lower bag limits.....I guess he wasn't catching any
