Looking to do some night fishing this weekend and have a spot that is about 50 yards from mud flats. I know they feed in the flats will they feed that far off of the flats? Bait suggestions? Thanks in advance for any information! Tight Lines!
Welcome to the forum Quenston. If catfish move onto a flat to feed at night they will thoroughly search for food. If you're going to set up & fish that flat as you say you might consider baiting the area where your bait will be. Consider scattering some hog pellets around the afternoon before you're fishing. Any feed store will have a 50 lb bag of pellets & a few pounds scattered will draw in the cats. That practice works great here on Lakes Tenkiller & ft Gibson. When those pellets begin to dissolve it brings in baitfish which draws in the predators. Good luck & tight lines.
If you can get a topo map of the area you will fish, try to find a small creek channel or a deeper area coming from the main river channel. I fish near these items on the shallower flats, and catch channels & blues from Grand. I use Danny Kings as a bait to attract them, and cut shad. Sometimes Danny Kings original is great this time of year and until October when the weather begins to cool.
