Hello everyone. I just moved to Sisters, Oregon and my son introduced me to Tenkara fishing . It’s a hoot! I’m also planning to fish the Cascade lakes and the Deschutes River.

Read a lot about it but I've never done it. What do you fish for with it? Pretty much designed for small water and smaller fish isn't it?

I've heard about this style of fly fishing but have never seen it in action. You're getting really up close and personal with the fish! I've always been told, if you can see the fish, they can see you. So I wonder how a tenkara angler can throw a presentation without inadvertently telegraphing his/her presence and spooking the fish!

So far I have fished Tumalo Creek and the upper Deschutes. Tiny water. A 12 inches is a monster! But you are a close up contact with the fish.

When I was a young fisherman of 11 and 12 years old, I fisheda Tenkara rig made up of a thin reed pole with a length of heavy braid and a mono leader and a popper. Caught lots of Bluegills but then I learned to cast a fly rod and have never bothered with the more modern version.

My brother got a tenkara rod and has enjoyed it. I will try it out once I get more proficient with my flu rod, sounds fun on small streams
