I see more and more guys using drones for fishing now, mostly beach fishermen/women. Looks kinda interesting to me. How do you folks feel about it?

Well, sounds interesting…I know drones are illegal for pursuing game in Michigan, never thought fishing. Un fair advantage?
Fishing, they still have to bite. Anymore unfair than fishfinders? Especially forward looking and live imaging..probably not in my mind.
Probably would work well on schooling fish in the ocean perhaps..schools of walleye on the Great Lakes? Don’t know if you could see them..interesting.
I’ve seen videos of them dropping a bait out beyond casting distance and for offshore from charter captains looking for schooling fish and for rips. The purse seiners used spotter planes to locate the schools of redfish to net. I guess they could use drones now if it’s still legal to purse seine. We use drones at work to map out industrial facilities, searching for pipeline leaks and internal inspections of vessels and towers. Technology.
Here on the west coast, I could see myself using them to find structure (holes, troughs etc.) as opposed to fish. Beats continuous flat sand.

Other than a drone possibly not able to give depth readings, not much different than a fish finder in my opinion.

I don't see much difference between using sonar and trying to get visuals with a drone. Like Outcast said, you still have to get them to bite.

I've seen them used to drop the rigging and bait past the breakers on the beach.

That's absolutely brilliant!
Would ruin a beautiful , peaceful day at the beach for me. They are noisy. Think there is controversy about it in some states.
I would research the law in your area. I know using a remote RC boat or other electrical device to fish with ( deliver bait, troll or fight fish) is illegal in some states. It seams the drome might fit under that law. I always wanted to use a RC boat to fish stocked trout in local ponds just for the novelty but it was illegal.
If someone used a drone to drop a bait near me, it would not end well. If someone tried a novelty approach without disturbing other fishermen, Go for it. I would be the first to watch.

They are noisy.....which makes me wonder how law enforcement can use them for surveillance without being noticed

Within like 20-30 feet, yes, you can hear the buzzing, but beyond that it blends in with the ambient background noise.

I've got a small one that does not require a FAA license to fly and its not noisy. But I have never been around the bigger ones.
