Hi, my name's Robert and I'm from a little town called Muldoon, Finally retired for the second time about 9 months ago. Decided to start fishing again, since I enjoyed it so much before. Plan to head down to Matagorda Beach Park and try some surf fishing. I have plenty of artificial lures but would like to get some fresh bait. Anyone know of a good bait shop or a place to stop and try a cast net? Would certainly appreciate any help. I'm 77 but that's no reason to stop living.

Old Fisherman; Sorry, but I have no recent knowledge of Matagorda Beach Park. I would say that fresh live shrimp is your best overall bait for Gulf fishing. But I would also suggest that you would be ahead to just buy your shrimp at a local bait stand. The reason being that you will spend too much time trying to catch your own bait and all that time you could be fishing!

Also, while you are there ask those folks about where to go, what is biting, and such. They will help you far beyond just selling you bait. But obviously it is all up to you.

I, too am a native Texan! Where is Muldoon, I've never heard of it. Just Sayin...RJS

Thanks, for your reply and suggestion. I agree that time spent trying to catch bait is time wasted away from fishing. My little town of Muldoon is located about 9 Miles northwest of La Grange off Hwy 71. Move here about a year and a half ago and love it. Spent approx 19 years in Ellinger, about 12 miles southeast of La Grange off Hwy 71.
If I may ask, where are you at? Been fishing long? Do you like fresh water or salt water best?

Hello Robert. I, too am a Robert. I am a native Texas, 87 years old. I have fished all my life and over the last half or so, been primarily a sport fisherman. I have fished Porto Rico, Costa Rico, Mexico, Brazil for Tarpon and Peacock Bass.

I grew up in North Texas. My dad was a pumper in an oil field in Cooke County, Gainesville is the county seat. We lived out in the far north west corner of the county about 2 miles from Red River. That is were I first began to fish in earnest.

After college and the U.S.Air Force, i moved around in Texas and fished both fresh and salt water often. Then I was sent to N.Y. and did not fish at all until I was sent back to New Oleans as a manager.

I have posted more than 900 stories on this format. I expect you can go back and search the system to access some of my fishing stories.

My wife and I retired after living in Houston for over 30 years. We moved to a Independent Living facility in Round Rock to be near our children last August. I am recovering from some heart problems and having a pace maker installed. Am not able to walk to well, and am taking Physical Therapy. Just Sayin...RJS.
