Welcome Nick. Glad to have you aboard.
I've never fished down that far in the state so can't help you with that area.
Must have been really something goin out on the Mississippi with your Dad. You'll have to entertain us with some stories bout it sometime.
Good luck in getting the info your lookin for. Tight lines to ya and post pics when you can.

Nick, welcome to the stage… You can catch Stripers, Largemouth Bass and Catfish at Lake Skinner. Not sure what species you’re after. Here is a link that may help you.

Hey Nick, welcome aboard. Are you fishing from a boat or shore. I live in Temecula and have fished Skinner for years. I fish from by boat. Really depends on what type of fish you are going after and what time of year. Ask any questions you like, and I will try to help you out

Hello Old Bass Guy.... I am 69yrs young and new to fishing and this forum... I bought a fishing kayak for exercise and decided to attemt to learn fishing. I have been going to Lake Skinner when it opens and paddling out of ramp 2... I see fish jumping around me but the only thing I have caught was some sore muscles.... Looking for bass or stripper. And of course the secret to caughting something in fact I will be more clear... Anything....

Skinner has a good assortment of fish to target. And you are not far from Lake Perris which also holds a nice variety.
Tight lines.

Well if I had a clue what I was doing I would say it's fun and not just paddle exercise 👍

Hey Honda, welcome aboard. Unfortunately, this is usually the slowest time of the year for fishing Skinner. I have been there many times and have had fish (big) jump all around me to no avail. I threw many different lures at them, and they just didn't want to play. Most of the bigger fish jumping now are probably carp. Probably your best bet now is to look for schooling stripers. If you find a school, work the outer edges of them with a white fluke. If I see a school, I try to get ahead of them and let them come to me. Most LMB's that I catch are right up against the reeds and I flip 5" Thin Yamamoto worms wacky rigged with no weight. Best colors Grn/Pumpkin and Natural Shad. Some fish can be caught drop shotting the points with the same set up using lighter weights. Lot of the baby bass are now in the shallows and can be caught using smaller worms (2-3")

Best time of year at Skinner is usually Apr/May. I have caught many LMB's in the lake in the 5llb -8lb range. I am without a car right now so have not been able to fish for a few weeks. When I get it back, maybe I can take you out in my boat and show you around.

A good way to learn how to fish and where is to hire a guide. This will save you many hours of frustration.
