Fishing the boat dock at the Gilbert River boat ramp I caught 7 perch, 2 catfish, and 2 chubs. The fishing was active but there is no shade so be sure to wear a hat and use plenty of sun screen. By the way I’m new to the community and this is my first post. Hello.

Welcome to the Stage Rick! Nice variety of fish you caught. Curious about the chub--around here, what I call chub (or creek chub) are basically minnow sized found in freshwater creeks and streams. Wonder if they're somehow related.

The ‘chub’ is a sucker fish like a carp that was about 3lbs and 12-13”. They kinda look like a squaw fish (northern pike minnow).

Thanks for the info Rick .I checked it out on wiki and they're related in name only. Completely different species. I wasn't aware of the chub fish you caught, until reading your post. Learn something new everyday!

Welcome Rick, sounds like a good day to me. I love perch, hope they were good sized for you. All we catch down here are smaller ones. Over population in a Res and that’s all you get. Haven’t caught a cat in a number of years. Send some pics when you get after em’ again. Good luck in your new livin area.
