Hi, I’m Elleigh Smith. I’ve been to Bush Point in the past years. Anyone know anything about this year’s fishing there/ any reports? We usually go down the beach since there’s certain designated fishing spots for fishers to be (for those who haven’t been before) part is private property, part isn’t. I know that in past years we’ve caught many pinks. Haven’t left Bush Point without two marks on the catch card each. I went today and for the first time in a while, we didn’t catch anything. King run is supposed to be this year, are we just too early? Anyone else catching there? Thanks in advance! (Photo is from last year’s fishing for pinks and coho. Caught 2 each.)

Good morning, Elleigh, and welcome to the Forum. Sorry, I have never fished the PNW, although, I have fished the lower CA. coastline.

That looks like combat fishing to me. Beautiful country! Good luck. We do love pictures, thanks for sharing.

Pinks run in quantity every other year. I believe this is the slow year. It is also pretty early for the major run.

Starting Thursday, I would put my time into crabbing Birch Bay and Blaine. Locally we have really been shut down for the salmon season.

I will be fishing that area by boat on Tuesday for the coho opening. Will let you know. Probably a little early for the run though

This is not a Pink Year. The WDFW site is a good place to check what others are catching in Puget Sound. So far the season is slow in the straits so not much of anything down by Whidbey yet.

Spoke to someone who has been fishing Bush Point he advised going early early morning. They are catching out there but overall it is pretty slow. He said he had caught a couple so far but I imagine he is going almost every day. Been fishing Keystone and have stood next to someone who has caught a salmon on 3 different days. This was over several hours with multiple people fishing and only one has been caught each of session so they are there but sparse. I am still at it though. I live to hope!

I agree, probably a little early for the run to come through. Come mid September, I will hit Bush point, and west beach at deception pass for the silvers. New to Whidbey Island, so I am learning, but have talked to several people who are experienced here. Should be fun when the fish come through.

I was out at possession bar today when a research boat pulled up to see what I caught. we hadn't caught any so I asked him if anyone was catching anything and he said a couple were being caught but not many. so they are around but the main run not really here yet

I fished up around the point at Ft. Casey. Caught a small Chinook that I had to throw back. No Cohos to be found. Not many trailers at the launch. Tells me main part of run not here yet. About 10 people casting from shore, didn't see anybody hooked up.
