My wife and I are looking for someplace in the north central or north eastern part of the state of Arkansas, where we can find a nice rustic cabin, and fish for catfish, perch, bluegill, anything but trout. We are trying to find a place around the end of September or into the middle of October. I was wondering if any of those species of fish might be found between, Mountain View and Batesville, or somewhere thereabouts on the White River; any other locations in the upper part of the state would be fine, as well. I realize water levels may be down on some rivers and lakes; so, any advice that would help us in this situation, would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Davo...... Welcome to the Stage. You left out one crucial piece of information in your post : Do want to rent a vacation place, or purchase real estate ? Also, I'm curious, first, no mention of bass. Second, why no trout, as they are quite often found in some very scenic locations ?
Any way good luck, we have participants from all over the country here, and I expect you will get some valuable guidance. nutz

Davo! Just guessing here, but based on your writing, it appears you're convinced the White River is trout-only. I mean, that's what the river is promoted as - a strong trout fishery, and it is, that provides trout fishing opportunities to scores of trout-ers every year. The White runs about 800' from my house in the form of Table Rock Lake, but without going down to look in the waters at Mt. View, I'm gonna guess there's a great population of gills and catfish, which are in all our rivers around here. Your advantage may actually be that since folks are clammerin to fish for trout there, your fishing may be really successful. Only a couple of rivers I know of, up here in Missouri, where ya ain't gonna find catfish, and bluegill would surely be scarce, is the upper end of Roaring River, and the Niangua River that forms after leaving Bennett Springs where they stock trout. That's not necessarily helpful to you in your trip planning, but I would not hesitate to plan to fish for gills and catfish around Mt. View on the White. Tons of cabin rentals around there, and I'm gonna bet you already know about Mt. View's claim to fame-folk music. They're nuts about it there. And, if you want amazing catfish and fixins, like a pile of hushpuppies you won't believe, go eat at JJs Catfish Wharf. It's about 10 miles north of MV, and is overlooking the White. Betcha folks there'll tell you about local catfishin. Now I'm hungry for their fish. 😋
After rereading this, I'm gonna bet you say "TMI". I wouldn't blame you.

I appreciate the advice regarding the White river; makes sense, that most people would be trout fishing. Talked to a couple game and fish guys, they weren’t too encouraging about Gills and cat, we’ll see. Thinking about Bull shoals also. Thanks

Rental for a few days; bass would be good; don’t care for trout. Thanks
