I have purchased a trolling motor and will be registering my kayak this week. Once I have numbers affixed to the side, I will install the trolling motor and battery. This will allow me to reach much further than my paddling will. That being the case, when I put in at Cedar Hill boatramp or at Panther Creek, where do you recommend that I head first? As you can imagine, I have not reached very far with my kayak as yet. I don’t have a topographical map of the lake bottom, so I’m not sure where I should focus my attention to catch bass. I would also like to get out in the main river channel and go for stripers. Any suggestions?

Good morning, Arjeje, and welcome to the Forum. That is a very specific question, and I don't know if any of our nearly 75,000 members worldwide will know the answer. If I were you, I would try to find someone who does know the answer at the launch. Or, maybe check to see if there is a local fishing forum you could join, or ask at a local bait shop or check with the DNR, they have all kinds of answers. Good luck.

You might try a search online for a topographic map of the area. I just did it and came up with maps from free to about 50 bucks listed. Just type in "map of cherokee lake TN" and you'll have several choices

Good Morning Arjeje. I would definitely invest in the topo map. I see that FHS (Fishing Hot Spots) makes one for Cherokee,
and I highly recommend their products. They are waterproof, and very detailed. They run about $11-$13, and are worth every penny. Check at a nearby Bait and Tackle, Walmart, or get one online. Good Luck and Tight Lines! Looking forward to pictures.

Great advice from Fred. I concur that they are well worth the investment.

Is your yak paddle or peddle Arjeje? Treat that trolling motor as though you were in a boat. Don't push the limits on how far you can go with out getting back without much effort.

Not sure if Sea Tow does kayaks.

Arjeje, you may want to look into the Navionics app for your phone as well as paper base maps.

Look at where the locals are going.
Be courteous and don’t crowd em. Just the general area

When I first started fishing for stripe I asked a lot of questions around boat ramps. Just catch a guy loading his fishing boat up after coming in and walk over and ask him what he caught. Most will be glad to share. As well as all the good advice about searching the net. The Navionics app will definitely help if your an accomplished fisherman. I think you will do well with the advice you have so far. Good fishing brother!
