These are all fish in what is called the "Pike family". Also there is definitely pike in Nebraska. I mean the are pretty much everywhere.

The black line coming down from the eye is a great way to positively ID this as a pickerel.

Here in north Florida they are called Chain Pickerel by the smart boys. ( biologist ). Us old rednecks call them Jackfish. And yes they are part of the pike family. They just don't get as big as your northern pike. The largest one I've ever saw was pushing 10 lb. And that is with 60 years of fishing behind me. They really average about 2 to3 lbs.
Definitely a chain pickerel. Look like a pike, have teeth like a pike and bony as hell like a pike. Lots of fun to catch.
And probably the best eating fish down here. You just have to gash them like you do a redhorse sucker. We call them sweet meat. When you cut out the rib cage and gash the filet you can fry up the whole thing and you have no bones.
That is a northern pike. Take a look at some pictures of pickles and the northern pike and you will see that, that is a northern pike.
