Pretty sure the fish in this video is in the Wrasse family. My sister wants to know what it is and I have no clue! Need some help!
Thanks in advance!

It went by pretty fast but I'll go with a type of catfish.

No idea. FF, if you touch the screen during playback you will see the pause button. Pause it then slide the dot on the screen to the frame you want to see. Or you can wait until it finishes playing then grab the dot and slide it to where you want to see it.

Wrasse family is definitely possible, tough without a face shot. The stringer rope gets in the way.

The morphology appears to be that of a wrasse. Could it be a yellow head wrasse (see pix)? (unable to get a screen capture of a fish-containing frame from the vid)

Looks like some sort of rock fish. I don’t think wrasses get that big!

Looks a lot like an adult greenling. They are pretty common saltwater catches. Could that possibly be it? I saw the long horizontal fin on its underbelly, and it matches to a greenling’s fin as well. Here’s a link to what a greenling looks like.

Definitely not a Tog, they have white chins and bellies.

Not a Tog, I agree so I think that the ID by Elleigh is good. I never thought about white chin on Togs . I have caught a few but not many.

Dog3259..... I couldn't get a good look, nothing remotely like that ,though, in my region, as far as I know. For someone who is familiar, that long anal fin and colored dorsal fins should be a couple of good clues. I would search the list by location and try to get help there. There are loads of CA folks here, and probably a few from southwest CA to help. Good Luck. Please let us know what ya find out.

Ell.... Looks like the ( female ) Kelp Greenling in your pictures. Especially those weird big yellow pectoral fins. Good work. Looks like you get my Sherlock Holmes Award for today. Excellent 1st post.
Welcome to the Stage, you showed up at the perfect moment to help, which is one of the primary things we try to do here. Thank you. nutz
