Good morning, DCG, I'm very concerned about our friends to the West, but I do not have any answers.
They are going to have a whole lot more to worry about if it dries up than a S load of dead fish to clean up.
Wonder what people on well water are experiencing out there.
Hoover Dam has 19 turbines; only 5 are operating now. If no substantial rain in the next 12 months, Lake Mead will be at "dead pool" at 900 feet. It is at about 1050 now. At dead pool, no water flows. And no power!!! Then Lake Powell will dry up and the west will dry up. I have friends in the Imperial Valley and San Diego and I tell them to sell now and get out for that and other reason too. Hard times are ahead for a lot of people if it does not rain or snow a lot in the near future.
Hey DC, if I recall correctly the DNR there took off all # limits so they can do needed maintenance and projects only on those two lakes. It is a limited thing and that is why the restrictions were lifted for a certain length of time.
MAS fish
Yeah it's partially due to the lack of rain, but also that both of these reservoirs are owned by irrigation companies and unfortunately the water goes 1st and foremost to the downstream customers who pay for the water, this isn't the 1st time it's happened, I believe Julesburg has had this happen
2-3 times in last 10 yrs, but the state always rebuilds it. It's the life of a Colorado ains reservoir
Was that julesburg August the 6th watered down low, fish not biting, need snow shoes to walk around in the mud hard to get the water edge caught one 1 lb wiper and about 10 4 to 5 in baby channel cats that we threw back, the trawlers on the lake left about noon
Wrong. They are out of water with low prospects of substantial runoff in the near future. Another lake on the plains went thru that and took several years to refill. Its serious out here guys. The Colorado River this year barely rose with snow melt runoff. No danger of floods. The main problem is high mountain thunderstorms that impact burn scars creating flash flooding where no vegetation can slow the water. Interstate 70 thru Glenwood canyon has had several flash floods this year with thousands of cubic yards of debris covering the highway and clogging the river. Travelers have been trapped in tunnels waiting until the next day to be dug out. Even with all that many of our reservoirs are so low you can't launch boats and requests to release water to flow to Lake Powell and Lake Mead cannot be filled because they don't have sufficient water. This whole country has more water than they need, like Kentucky, and no water where they need it like everything west of the Continental Divide. Pray for the west as it's gonna get real bad if things don't change soon. OK I'm off my soapbox now. Sorry guys. Please pray for the flood victims. We complain we can't launch our boats when they can't even find their boats. Thanks.
