Morning, Hopefully buying a small boat soon. Want to fish the SF Bay and have no idea where to go and how to go about it. Very excited to start this new endeavor! Any suggestions are very welcome.

Welcome to the stage G74. Obviously my 3000 mile away input wont help other than asking how small of a boat are you talking about?

That might help those out your way with responses.

What part of SF Bay Area are you planning on fishing 🎣 and is there a certain species of fish 🐠 your looking for
There are a few launch ramps that are available depending on how far you want to travel by land or water
Every bit of information will be helpful πŸ™πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘

19 foot Deep V with windshield might work. Be careful with your choice of boats if you plan on actually fishin SF. Bay itself. It can get pretty rough for a small boat.

Welcome to the Stage! I think you got a lot good questions that you can answer that will greatly enhance member's response. Size and style of boat is important and safety is paramount. As for locations to fish, to know where you generally based and what you want do will help get you information. If you are South Bay, SF, Marin, East Bay, Sonoma, etc. There are a lot of places you can go and be successful, well with a bit of luck you can be fishing and hopefully catching!!!

Good Luck!!!

Thanks for all the replies! My boat is a 19' Seaswirl probably get a slip in either Richmond or Berkeley or Emeryville, still shopping around. Just started looking at life jackets and first aid stuff. Haven't gotten to rods/reels etc. (Yet) Trying to now deal with the DMV

I just googled the Seaswirl, nice looking center console craft for fishing. Definitely not a deep water boat but should be ideal for the bay and tributaries. Would suggest a compass if you are new at this and for a PFD i prefer the inflate able, much more comfortable while fishing. One last thing is two good paddles just in case.
