TVA Dam Boat Ramp by Kayak
Tennessee Fishing

I’ve been fishing for the last two weeks, five days a week Monday through Friday at Panther Creek State Park boat ramp and Oak Hill boat ramp. I have not caught one bass. It seemed these waters are just not conducive to fishing. At least not accessible by kayak. Searching on the Internet it seems that fishing by the dam is a decent Hotspot. It’s a half an hour drive for me, is it worth the drive? And once I am in the water there, which way do I paddle, and what are popular baits?

Arjeje, I give you credit for perserverance! I am not familiar with that body of water, so don’t know what fish it has. The water should be deeper at the dam, so you might try a jig tipped with a swimbait, or,slip bobber rigged deeper with live bait, deep diving crank baits or even a Senko type bait on bottom.
Good luck to you, and report back, with pics!

Found this on line. Assuming you are bass fishing, may help get you going!

Change water, change presentations. Try something different.

Thanks for the info! I found Black Oak Marina and boat ramp online, so I put in there today. No creel today, but I could see the dam about 1.5 - 2 miles away. I’m going to the dam tomorrow! Any advice for me? I won’t be using live bait, just soft plastics, crank baits, Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, jigs and such. Should I anchor the kayak somewhere? Left, right or middle of the dam? Right up against it, or try to stay in the channel , say, 100’ away from dam? Stay 50’ from the shore and cast towards it? Is there a thermocline depth I should target? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Otherwise I’ll just be throwing the whole tacklebox in any ole direction! Fingers crossed that I can finally post pics tomorrow afternoon!

You guys rock, thank you so much for your time!

This guy is no timid goose! Before I even got the kayak into the water he was all over me! He even tried to chew the registration stickers off the side of the kayak! Haha! I kept telling him to go away, that I had no food to give him, but that did not deter him. So I held out my hand towards him to show that I had nothing, and this little son of a gun started chewing on my hands and fingers! Heck, I’ll bet I could have loaded him up into the cab of my pick up truck and he would’ve been just as happy! I know that bread is not very nutritious for them, but I am going to bring some to him tomorrow morning before I head out to the dam. Maybe I should put some butter or peanut butter on the bread? If he acts anything like he did today for a few more days I’m going to have to name him and get a leash! Haha!

He followed me everywhere! And when I cranked my trolling motor up to top speed, he couldn’t paddle that fast, so he would take to the air so he could catch up, then land right next to the kayak and still begged for food!
